Our Take

The Air France KLM Visa Signature® credit card is a narrow card, built for people who already want to earn Flying Blue miles and status. Its welcome offer has changed over time and is often the main reason to get the card, so check the current terms before you do.

Start with the trade-offs. It carries an annual fee, and it has no lounge access, no free checked bags, and no travel credits. A yearly anniversary mileage bonus (you need to make a small amount of purchases each year to get it) goes a long way toward offsetting the fee, and you also get 20 XP each year just for holding the card.

It has decent earn rates, but transferable points cards earn comparably, and Flying Blue is a transfer partner of Chase, Amex, Capital One, Citi, and Bilt. Where this card stands out is XP: extra XP unlock at $15,000 and $25,000 of annual spending, for up to 160 XP a year (all additional XP is earned on your account anniversary). That’s a lot of spending, so it only makes sense if the status is worth it to you.

The card fits if you’ll redeem for Air France or KLM flights, especially transatlantic business class, and want a head start on status. Silver is the entry tier (earned at 100XP). The perks that matter, like SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits and better award availability, come at higher tier levels.
