Our Take

The Bank of America® Unlimited Cash Rewards credit card is a simple flat-rate cash back card: 1.5% cash back on every purchase, with no categories to track and no limit on what you can earn. It’s a low-maintenance catch-all card, but it isn’t built for travel.

Start with the trade-offs. The rate is flat, so there’s no bonus category to boost it, and if you spend heavily in one category, the Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card may earn more. Because it earns cash back instead of points, it also won’t help you get outsized value on travel.

Here’s where it pays off. You earn 1.5% on everything, from gifts to groceries, so it’s an easy home for the purchases that don’t fit a bonus category on your other cards. There’s no annual fee, so there’s no cost to keeping it open, and cash rewards don’t expire as long as your account stays open. BofA Rewards™ members earn more cash back.

This card fits if you want one low-effort card that earns the same on everything, or a no-annual-fee backup for spending outside your bonus categories. Skip it if you want to maximize travel rewards or you have a few big spending categories that a bonus-category card would reward more.
