Hi Travel Junkies,

Whether it’s the white-sand beaches or the world-class snorkeling or the tantalizing cuisine, everyone is dying to get to Fiji – and we’re going to help you get there!

Fiji is the definition of a tropical paradise (I looked it up), but if you’re just now typing it into Google Maps… yeah, it’s way out there. Not to worry, we’ve compiled 3 of the best ways to get there on points and miles.

Sit back, click through a few of those drop-dead gorgeous Fiji beach pics, and let us help you map out your journey to this South Pacific oasis.

Although there are less options for getting to Fiji than some tropical islands (like Hawaii), Fiji Airways offers direct service from the U.S. – making it easier than you might think.

More importantly, Fiji Airways has 3 major airline partnerships – Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, and Cathay Pacific – which make finding award availability to Fiji much more possible.

So, check out these 3 options and choose the one that fits your points and miles stash the best.

Alaska Airlines Miles for Fiji Airways Flights

You can book award tickets on Fiji Airways from Los Angeles to Fiji with Alaska Airlines miles:

  • 40,000 miles one-way between Los Angeles and Fiji in economy
  • 55,000 miles one-way between Los Angeles and Fiji in Business

How to get Alaska Airlines miles

Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) is a transfer partner of Alaska Airlines. SPG Starpoints transfer at a 1:1 ratio and points transferred in 20,000 increments will get you an extra 5,000 bonus miles, which means transferring 20,000 SPG points would total 25,000 Alaska Mileage Plan miles. These points generally take a couple days to post to your Alaska Mileage Plan account.

If you want to earn SPG Starpoints, the easiest way is with either business or personal version of the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card.

How to book Fiji Airways award space with Alaska Airlines miles

  1. Go to alaskaair.com and select “one-way” and “use miles”
  2. Plug in a departure date and Los Angeles in the “From” section (do not start the search from your home airport, that step comes later)
  3. Once you find award space from LAX to Fiji, try the search from your airport
  4. If you find award space on Alaska Airlines to LAX, you can go ahead a book this online
  5. If you can’t find award space on Alaska Airlines to LAX, you can book the LAX to Fiji segment but will need to find another way to LAX

You can also search segment by segment and call Alaska Airlines to complete the booking.

Alaska Airlines only lets you fly one partner airline per booking, so you can NOT connect from your home airport to LAX on American Airlines.

American Airlines AAdvantage Miles for Fiji Airways Flights

You can book economy seats on Fiji Airways from Los Angeles to Fiji for 40,000 AAdvantage miles one-way and 80,000 one-way for Business Class.

How to get AAdvantage miles

Like Alaska Airlines, SPG is a partner with American Airlines. SPG Starpoints are your best bet to earn American miles thanks to the the 1:1 ratio and the 5,000 bonus miles you receive for every 20,000 SPG Starpoints transferred.

Citi provides a co-branded card with American Airlines that earns American AAdvantage miles directly. This is another option to help you earn the necessary miles.

How to book Fiji Airways award space with AAdvantage miles

  1. The easiest way is to again, go to alaskaair.com (because you cannot book directly from aa.com) and select “one-way” and “use miles”
  2. Plug in a departure date and Los Angeles in the “From” section
  3. Use aa.com to find saver level award space on a flight from your home airport to LAX
  4. Note the date, cabin, and flight number of the award space for both the Fiji Airways flight from LAX and the flight from your home airport to LAX
  5. Call American Airlines to book (800-882-8880).

You will not be charged a phone booking fee, since award space on Fiji Airways cannot be booked online.

Cathay Pacific Asia Miles for Fiji Airways Flights

The third partner of Fiji Airlines that you should consider is Cathay Pacific. You can book economy from Los Angeles to Fiji for 40,000 Asia miles one-way, and 70,000 in Business Class. It’s an even better deal when booking round-trip flights at 60,000 miles in economy class and 120,000 miles in business class.

You can book economy from Los Angeles to Fiji for 40,000 Asia miles one-way, and 70,000 in Business Class

How to get Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

You can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points, Citi ThankYou Points, or Starwood Preferred Guest points at a 1:1 ratio to Asia Miles.

SPG points transferred in 20,000 increments will get you an extra 5,000 bonus miles, which means transferring 20,000 SPG points would total 25,000 Asia miles. Points typically transfer with a couple days.

Unlike the other options on Fiji Airways, Cathay Pacific is a transfer partner with 3 credit card partners, making it very easy to earn the necessary points for this redemption.

You will need a Citi Prestige card or a Citi Premier® Card to be able to transfer your Citi ThankYou Points to Asia Miles.

How to book Fiji Airways award space with Asia Miles

As with Alaska Airlines and American Airlines, you can use Alaska’s website to search for award space. Unlike the other two options, Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles program is distance-based rather than region-based.

The more miles you fly, the higher the Asia Miles you’ll need. When you consider how easy it is to earn Asia Miles, this can be a useful redemption from Los Angeles.

Once you have found the space, call Cathay Pacific to complete the booking (866-892-2598).

Although jumping through these hoops might seem tedious, it’s also the major reason why award availability on these routes tends to be more available!

Conclusion

If you’re looking for the easiest booking process, Alaska miles are tough to beat if Alaska Airlines flies to Los Angeles from your home airport. Additionally, American miles might make the most sense for you since they provide more connections to Los Angeles.

Finally, Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles provides a great option from the west coast if you have lots of transferrable points.

Now that you have three great options for getting there, it’s time to pack up your snorkeling gear and book that dream vacation to Fiji!
