Citi has added Japan Airlines (JAL) as a new transfer partner for Citi ThankYou® Points, and the transfer ratio is 1:1. That means every ThankYou Point you transfer becomes one JAL mile. To sweeten the deal, Citi is running a 30% transfer bonus for a limited time, through October 24, 2026. So if you transfer 10,000 ThankYou Points, you will get 13,000 JAL miles instead.
JAL is a member of the oneworld alliance, which means those miles can be used to book flights on many airlines around the world, including American Airlines and Iberia. You can also use JAL miles to book flights with Air France which is a special airline partnership. Doing so you will pay significantly less taxes than you would booking directly through Air France.
Of course we can’t forget that JAL miles are well known for being very useful when booking premium cabin flights to Asia and beyond. The 30% bonus is available for a limited time, so you will want to act before it ends.
Our Take
This is a big deal for anyone who uses points and miles to book flights. Japan Airlines has some of the best award availability and redemption rates for business and first class seats to Japan and other parts of Asia. Adding JAL as a 1:1 partner gives Citi ThankYou Points real value for people wanting premium cabin travel to that part of the world.
The 30% transfer bonus makes this even better right now. If you have been sitting on a pile of ThankYou Points and have a trip to Asia on your radar, this is a great time to move those points over to JAL. Just make sure you have a specific flight in mind before you transfer, because points moved to an airline program cannot be moved back.
