Overview of Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road

The Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road Hotel is a luxury and upscale option. There are 227 beautiful rooms available, and they’re all decorated in a slightly seaside décor with rich neutrals and aquatic colors. Overall, the space is inviting and still comes with the latest technological advancements.

This hotel felt more like a resort than the last two places we stayed, but it’s also close to the city with plenty of accessible restaurants and activities. You’ll get quaint accommodations and excellent service, but the space is there to relax and stretch your legs after a long journey.

Many hotels focus on a specific type of person, but I don’t think the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road does. It’s ideal for couples, partiers, quiet-seekers and families. If you get rowdy, you’re probably not going to annoy the other guests too much, and it’s near many activities. Plus, it’s close to the main attractions, and you’ll be in the heart of Kuta, Bali.

Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road Location

The Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road is on Jl. Merdeka Raya, which is called Sunset Road in Kuta. It’s a highly popular place for visitors to seek accommodations, and it’s well connected to the city. Although there are buses and taxis, I have found that Grab, a ride-hailing mobile app, is the best way to travel in Bali.

Overall, you’ll get to experience what it’s like to live in a Balinese city, and there will likely be traffic all the time. Still, you can relax and unwind as well.

Best Parts of Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road

It’s important to understand the benefits of staying at Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road. In fact, there were many things I enjoyed, but I’ll keep it short and sweet by only talking about several of them.

  • Friendly staff and service: When you go on vacation, you want to surround yourself with pleasant people, and you’ll get that here. The staff is friendly and will do whatever they can to accommodate you. In fact, you’ll get a “hello” when you pass anyone, and most of the time, they’ll ask if you need anything. Although I didn’t require assistance, it’s nice to know they were there.
  • Located close to everything: The airport is just 20 minutes away, and the hotel sits on a street with many restaurants and shops. Although there are spa services and many other amenities to enjoy, you’ll probably find yourself getting out there and exploring what’s on offer. Likewise, you can walk to most of the places, but Grab is another way to get around town when you want a no-fuss transportation option.
  • Great amenities: The amenities are what most people focus on when choosing accommodations, and I have to say they were excellent here. We had free Wi-Fi, though it can be spotty in the rooms. Plus, there’s a fitness center and much more.
  • Water: Traveling to a new country means not using the tap water. Most places give you bottled water, but this means more trash to throw away. Instead, the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road gives you a gallon jug of water and tumblers, which you can fill up at one of the stations available. I loved this and am surprised that more hotels in Bali haven’t adopted this.

Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road Drawbacks

When I visit the Marriott location, such as the Fairfield Inn, I expect it to be perfect. Therefore, I was let down slightly on a few occasions, and I want to talk about them now:

  • Cleanliness: I felt that the room wasn’t as clean as it should have been. In fact, I noticed a few strands of hair around the toilet and some minor debris throughout the room. It wasn’t bad enough for me to call and complain, but it wasn’t up to the standards I’d experienced so far in Bali.
  • Odd location: I have to point out that the location for the hotel is a bit odd. When we arrived, we saw a hospital, which detracted slightly from the ambiance. However, it’s not the end of the world.
  • Tight room layout: The room felt like it had a lot of furniture in it for the size of the room.

Getting to Fairfield by Marriott Kuta Sunset Road

I came to Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road from the Alila Manggis and stayed there for two nights. Earlier, I’d mentioned Grab, an equivalent of Uber. You simply download the app, which is highly popular, input where you are and where you want to go, and you’ll be connected with a driver. It took us about two hours to reach the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road.

Overall, I feel that Grab is the best way to travel. Simply request a pickup, wait a little bit and slide into a clean vehicle. Then, you’re taken where you want to go, and you don’t have to worry about traffic or driving stress because someone else does the work. It’s also not too expensive.

However, I expect many people will come from the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, which means the hotel will be about 20 minutes away. Still, taking a Grab is the best solution because you don’t have to rent and drive a car.

How I Booked the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road

Before I arrived at the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road Hotel, I had booked a Queen Guest Room for two nights for about $44 per night. I used Marriott’s friends and family rate to book this room because I have a friend who works at Marriott. This was also during Marriott’s promotion where each paid night counted as two toward elite night credit, and 1,000 bonus points were given per night, making it a superb deal.

It’s possible to book this hotel on points as well, and you can expect to pay around 11,000 to 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night. With how low the cash rate was, it didn’t make sense to use points during our stay, so I always recommend comparing cash and points prices.

Due to the award price of this hotel, it’s usually possible to book this hotel with the various free night award certificates offered by Marriott co-branded credit cards, but it’s generally a better idea to book with points as this hotel is priced relatively low and save the certificate for more expensive Marriott properties.

Marriott points can be earned with the following credit cards:

Check-In

When my boyfriend and I got to the hotel, there was someone there to help with our bags, but we didn’t need assistance. I went straight to the service desk, and the woman asked for the name on the reservation, which was my partner’s. She looked up our reservation and upgraded us to a Queen Guest Room with a Pool View. She also mentioned my boyfriend’s Platinum Elite status, and we received complimentary breakfast for both mornings of the stay.

Both the original room that was booked and the upgraded room were 323 square feet and featured air conditioning, a balcony, a living/sitting area and many other amenities. However, the upgrade gave me a view of the pool, which was a nice touch.

Overall, the impression I got when going into the hotel was that it featured a slightly aquatic setting and was comfortable if not luxurious. It was easy to start unwinding before I’d even gotten to the room.

When I first walked into my room, I felt a little cramped. It was small compared with other hotels, but the vibe was still welcoming. Overall, it was a bright space because of the white and cream walls, but the flooring was wood tile. Likewise, the blackout curtains were dark blue, and there was a dark-colored couch covering the windows.

Although we had a pool view, it was a little shocking to see the balconies on the other side. Overall, it felt cramped, especially compared with our recent accommodation.

There was an air conditioner in the room, which I immediately turned down. It wasn’t hot in the room, but it wasn’t what I would call comfortable. Even though this room faced the pool, I didn’t experience any problems with noise. I will say that the windows were floor-to-ceiling, so there’s not much for soundproofing.

I also pointed out that the bathroom was also quite small. There’s no tub, but we got a standalone shower system with a seat and movable shower head. Likewise, the sink was quite stylish, and there were plenty of extra towels.

The Fairfield brand uses a collection of toiletries called This Works Bath & Body, and I found the scent to be relaxing.

There were plenty of in-room amenities to enjoy, including slippers and a hair dryer, and there was a coffee/tea maker and a mini fridge available. Plus, the alarm clock and moveable desk made it easy to stay organized.

I also found a 43-inch LED television with cable and satellite, and there was a radio in the room. Plus, we got complimentary high-speed internet.

There were book lights on each side of the bed, and the outlets were hidden behind the desk.

In summary, I expected a little more from the room, but it wasn’t too bad for the price we paid.

Food and Drink

Because my boyfriend has Platinum Elite status with Marriott Bonvoy, we were offered complimentary breakfast on both mornings of the stay, and the breakfast buffet offering was solid. However, we didn’t otherwise eat at the hotel because there were so many other options nearby, and we ordered sushi via Grab one night. The hotel also offers the Jejaton Restaurant, which serves Asian food, and the Jaba Lobby Lounge, which serves Italian and alcoholic beverages.

If you’re like me and want to dine away from the hotel, you’ll find a few options nearby. These include:

  • Shisha Café – Middle Eastern cuisine open for all three meals
  • Don Juan Mexican Restaurant – Mexican bar and restaurant that serves all three meals
  • Fat Tony’s – American cuisine, including hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches and quesadillas

Sadly, I thought there would be more Indonesian restaurants near the hotel. I truly enjoy immersing myself in the country’s culture, but there weren’t as many options nearby compared to other places we stayed.

Amenities

Amenities at the Fairfield by Marriott Kuta Sunset Road

The pool was large and somewhat surprisingly, never crowded. This was also one of the few hotels we stayed at with a hot tub, not that you need one in Bali. | Photo by Charlie Lewis

Overall, I would say the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road offers excellent amenities, including a hot tub, outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi and a fitness center. Plus, there’s an on-site restaurant for those who don’t like to leave for meals.

The Alaya Spa seemed relaxing and offered various services, but I didn’t use the facility while I was there, so I can’t say how good it was.

The gym offered free weights and exercise equipment and was quite spacious, but wasn’t one of the best gyms we encountered in Bali.

Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road Family Friendliness

If you plan to go to Bali as a family, I will say that the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road doesn’t offer any children’s activities or a kids’ lounge. However, your little ones can still play in the pool, and there are many attractions nearby.

Overall, I can’t say it’s a family-oriented hotel. Instead, it’s family-friendly for those who have a full itinerary.

Final Thoughts on Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road

I enjoyed my two-night stay at the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road. Even though it wasn’t my favorite hotel we stayed at in Bali, it was a good value compared to the price we paid. Since my boyfriend is a Platinum Elite member, we got free breakfast, and the staff upgraded us to a pool-view room. However, I did feel that the space was a little cramped and wasn’t expecting the many other balconies I faced when opening the curtains.

Overall, I think this is an excellent place to stay when you’re traveling to Bali, especially if you’re focused on the Kuta attractions and are looking to stay in a nice hotel for a low price.
