Aeromexico is a great airline for U.S. travelers that are looking to find flights between the U.S. and Mexico. If you find yourself flying on Aeromexico often, you may already be familiar with the Aeromexico Rewards frequent flyer program.

Through this program, you can earn points for taking paid flights on Aeromexico or one of its airline partners as well as by transferring in points from most of the major credit card rewards programs (including American Express Membership Rewards, Brex Rewards, Capital One Rewards and Citi ThankYou Rewards). You can then redeem those points for award flights on Aeromexico or one of its airline partners (as well as in other, less lucrative ways).

However, the Aeromexico Rewards program has some major drawbacks. For one, while Aeromexico is a member of SkyTeam Alliance and has several other non-SkyTeam partners, you can typically only book partner award flights over the phone through the Aeromexico Rewards program. This makes it very difficult to find partner award flights that offer good value through this frequent flyer program.

Additionally, while some award flights are priced according to fixed award charts through the Aeromexico Rewards program, many Aeromexico-operated and partner-operated award flights are priced according to a dynamic pricing model (which means you won’t be able to get much more than 1 cent per point in value out of these redemptions). There are two different types of Aeromexico award tickets offered through the Aeromexico Rewards program:

  • Classic Aeromexico Rewards Tickets (which are priced according to a fixed award chart)
  • Aeromexico Rewards Tickets with a dynamic fare

So, if you want to get the most possible value out of the Aeromexico Rewards program, you want to stick to redeeming Aeromexico points for Classic Aeromexico Rewards Tickets as they tend to offer far more value per point.

In this article, we’ll include the award chart for Classic Aeromexico Rewards Tickets. The prices for Aeromexico Rewards tickets with a dynamic fare aren’t fixed and will fluctuate based on the cash price of a flight.

Aeromexico Rewards Award Charts

Fixed vs. Dynamic Fare Award Flights

Award flights operated by Delta Air Lines, KLM and Air France are all priced using a dynamic pricing model. Many Aeromexico-operated award flights are also priced using a dynamic pricing model. This means that the price of these flights will vary based on the route, cabin class, availability and demand of your desired flight. In most cases, the award price of these awards is tied to the cash price of the same ticket. Thus, you’ll typically only be able to get 1 cent per point in value out of these dynamically priced award flights.

By contrast, all partner award flights that aren’t operated by Delta Air Lines, KLM or Air France are priced according to the Aeromexico Rewards program’s fixed award chart (which will be included in the “Classic Aeromexico Rewards Tickets Award Chart” section below). The other airline partners with which you can book award flights through the Aeromexico Rewards program include the following:

  • Aerolíneas Argentinas
  • Air Europa
  • Czech Airlines
  • EL AL Airlines
  • Garuda Indonesia
  • GOL
  • Korean Air
  • LATAM Airlines
  • Virgin Atlantic

Since flights on the airlines listed above are priced according to a fixed award chart, it’s possible to find outsized-value redemptions on these airlines that offer more than 1 cent per point in value. Many Aeromexico-operated award flights are also priced according to this fixed award chart.

Unfortunately, dynamically priced award flights have a much wider availability than fixed-price award flights through the Aeromexico Rewards program, which means they are much easier to find. So, if you want to find fixed-price award flights that offer outsized value, you’ll probably have to do some searching.

One other difference between these two types of awards is that Classic Aeromexico Rewards Tickets include checked baggage except in the U.S. and Canada. On the other hand, dynamically priced award flights may or may not include checked baggage depending on the specific fare.

The rates listed above are for one-way awards. If you wish to know the price of a round-trip Classic Aeromexico Rewards Ticket, you can simply double the rate listed in the chart above.

Of course, despite the fact that Aeromexico’s airline partners fly out of and into destinations all around the globe, the award chart above only covers flights to or from Mexico. So, while the chart above supposedly applies to all Classic Aeromexico Rewards Tickets regardless of which airline is operating the award flight, it doesn’t tell us, for instance, what a Korean Air-operated award flight between Seoul, South Korea, and Jakarta, Indonesia, would cost.

In order to find out the costs of partner award flights that don’t include a stop in Mexico through the Aeromexico Rewards program, you’ll need to call the Aeromexico Rewards customer service number,as these awards can’t be searched for online.

The Bottom Line

In general, the Aeromexico Rewards program needs a lot of improvement. While this program is a transfer partner of many of the major transferable credit card rewards programs, is a member of SkyTeam Alliance and prices many of its award flights using fixed region-based award charts, which are all major perks, there are also some downsides to this program.

For one, some award flights are priced using a dynamic model, including all flights operated by Air France, Delta Air Lines and KLM and some flights operated by Aeromexico. Also, partner award flights can’t be booked online and can typically only be booked over the phone. This makes it very difficult to compare your options and get the best value out of your points.

To make matters worse, Aeromexico only publishes an award chart for flights departing from or arriving in Mexico on its website. So, if you want to know the price of, for example, a flight from London to New York on one of Aeromexico’s partners, you can’t find that information without calling Aeromexico customer service.

So, while the Aeromexico Rewards program has the potential to be an asset to points/miles enthusiasts, it needs to work out a few kinks with its website first. However, if you already have a balance of points in your Aeromexico Rewards account, being familiar with the award chart above can help you get good value for them.
