Royal Jordanian is the flag carrier of the Middle Eastern nation of Jordan and a member of Oneworld Alliance. However, despite being the national airline of a relatively small country, Royal Jordanian operates several routes to cities in the United States, including Chicago, Washington D.C., Dallas, Detroit and New York.

As you might imagine, the flights from all three of these U.S. cities to Royal Jordanian’s hub in Amman (AMM), Jordan are very long. The shortest of these three routes, from New York to Amman, takes at least 10 hours. To make this long journey more comfortable, you might consider flying in business class (known as Crown Class) and enjoying amenities such as lie-flat seats, complimentary gourmet meals and luxurious amenity kits.

Unfortunately, Royal Jordanian Crown Class tickets can have huge cash prices, particularly on long-haul routes between the U.S. and Jordan. So, if you want to keep your out-of-pocket costs low and still experience Royal Jordanian’s business-class product, the best way to do so is by booking Crown Class tickets with points and miles.

In this article, we’ll look at some of the best ways to book Royal Jordanian business-class award tickets with points and miles. We’ll also let you know what to expect when flying in Royal Jordanian Crown Class.

What to Expect in Royal Jordanian Business Class (Crown Class)

The Royal Jordanian fleet consists of several aircraft types that are used for different types of flights. The best business-class product in the fleet is on Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, which are used to operate long-haul flights (including flights between Jordan and the U.S.). Crown Class seats on these aircraft are arranged in a 2-2-2 configuration and have a 60-inch pitch. These seats also convert into lie-flat beds, ensuring that you’ll get some rest on your long flight.

Royal Jordanian also operates medium- and short-haul flights using other aircraft types. The following table includes each of the aircraft types in the Royal Jordanian fleet, the number of Crown Class seats and the Crown Class seat pitch:

The only aircrafts in the Royal Jordanian fleet that offer lie-flat seating are the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and the Boeing 787-9. Crown Class seats on these other aircraft types are typically comfortable leather recliners.

While many other airlines give business-class passengers several meal options, Royal Jordanian Crown Class passengers all receive the same meal unless making a special request for religious or health reasons (kosher meals, gluten-free meals, Hindu meals, diabetic meals, non-lactose meals and special meals addressing allergies such as nuts, sesame, seafood and mushrooms are available). All meals served on Royal Jordanian are halal. Crown Class passengers are also entitled to complimentary beverages upon request, including champagne, red wine, white wine, beer, spirits, soft drinks, coffee and tea.

On long-haul flights, Royal Jordanian business-class passengers also receive an amenity kit. Depending on the route that you’re flying, you’ll either get the Christian Lacroix amenity kit or another amenity kit that contains Aigner Parfums. Both kits contain socks, eyemasks, toothbrushes, toothpaste and a pen. Generally, business-class amenity kits on other airlines offer skincare products, which are notably lacking in some Royal Jordanian amenity kits.

Passengers with Crown Class tickets are also entitled to certain perks at the airport, including access to a dedicated check-in office at Queen Alia International Airport, luggage service, Fast Track Immigration and priority boarding. You can also access the Crown Lounge at Queen Alia International Airport, which offers stellar amenities such as a hair and nail salon, arcade machines, a shoe shining station, high-speed Wi-Fi and complimentary food and beverages.

Best Programs Through Which You Can Book Royal Jordanian Business Class

Because Royal Jordanian is a member of Oneworld Alliance, you can book Royal Jordanian business-class awards through certain partner frequent flyer programs.

Let’s take a look at the best ways to book Royal Jordanian business-class awards on different route types.

Credit Card Travel Booking Portals

If you want to book Royal Jordanian business-class long-haul flights with points, for most travelers, one of the only ways to do so is through credit card travel booking portals. While Royal Jordanian business-class awards on short- and medium-haul routes are available through partner frequent flyer programs, Royal Jordanian business-class awards on long-haul routes through these programs are limited and harder to find.

Unfortunately, these credit card booking portals almost always offer a redemption value of 1 cent per point (with the exception of Chase Travel℠ in rare cases). Since Royal Jordanian business-class tickets on long-haul flights have very high cash prices, you’ll also need a lot of credit card points to book these flights as awards.

For example, we found a round-trip Royal Jordanian business-class itinerary between New York (JFK) and Amman (AMM) for 585,723 Capital One miles through Capital One’s travel booking site.

The cash price of this flight is $5,857, so the redemption value would be 1 cent per point. Obviously, this is a massive amount of miles to spend on a single flight itinerary. Unfortunately, though, spending an exorbitant amount of points or miles through your credit card’s travel booking site is the only way to book a Royal Jordanian transatlantic business-class award.

Qantas Frequent Flyer

If you’re interested in booking Royal Jordanian business-class award flights around the Middle East, you can find these types of awards through the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. These awards tend to offer slightly better value than if you were to book the same flights through your credit card’s travel booking portal.

For example, we found a round-trip Royal Jordanian business-class itinerary between Amman (AMM) and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (AUH) for 92,000 Qantas Points plus about $292 in taxes and fees (the taxes and fees in the screenshots below are displayed in British Pound sterling and Australian dollars).

If you were to book these same flights with cash through the Royal Jordanian website, they would cost you 1,156 Jordanian dinar (about $1,631).

So, accounting for the taxes and fees you’d have to pay for the award flights, this redemption would give you a decent value of about 1.5 cents per point. Plus, earning Qantas Points is relatively easy for many U.S. credit cardholders because the Qantas Frequent Flyer program is a 1:1 transfer partner of several major U.S. credit card rewards programs, including:

American Airlines AAdvantage

Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any award availability on long-haul routes through the American Airlines AAdvantage program. However, you can consistently find Royal Jordanian business-class award flights within the Middle East through AAdvantage. These awards often offer decent value.

For example, we found a round-trip Royal Jordanian business-class award itinerary between Amman (AMM) and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (RUH) for 60,000 AAdvantage miles and about $133 in taxes and fees.

If you booked the same flight itinerary with cash through the Royal Jordanian website, it would cost you 987 Jordanian dinar (about $1,393).

Factoring in the taxes and fees you’d pay for the award flight, this redemption would give you a decent value of about 2.1 cents per point.

The only major U.S. credit card rewards program that allows transfers to American Airlines AAdvantage is Citi ThankYou Rewards. However, many U.S. travelers have saved up AAdvantage miles from flying on American Airlines and other Oneworld airlines.

The Bottom Line

If you’re taking a long-haul direct flight from the U.S. to Jordan on Royal Jordanian, then the idea of flying in business class may be very appealing. In particular, Royal Jordanian’s business-class product (known as Crown Class) features a lie-flat bed on long-haul flights, which is important for a 10+ hour flight from the U.S. to Jordan.

However, cash prices for Royal Jordanian Crown Class are in the thousands for long-haul flights, and, unfortunately, finding award availability for this class through frequent flyer programs, such as American Airlines AAdvantage and Qantas, is limited and hard to find. So, if you want to book a long-haul Crown Class award ticket, one of the main options is typically to pay an exorbitant amount of points through your credit card’s travel booking portal.
