Capital One’s mileage program just got better with the addition of Japan Airlines Mileage Bank, Qatar Airways and Preferred Hotels & Resorts as transfer partners.
One of the most exciting of the three is the partnership between Japan Airlines and Capital One. You can now turn 1,000 Capital One miles into 750 Japan Airlines miles at a 4:3 ratio. Even better news – until October 18, 2025, there’s a 30% transfer bonus that makes the ratio nearly 1:1 (1,000 Capital One miles gets you 975 Japan Airlines miles). This is huge because many Capital One cards earn 2X miles on purchases, meaning you could earn close to two Japan Airlines miles per dollar spent. What makes this special is that Capital One is the only major transferable points program (besides Bilt Rewards) with Japan Airlines as a partner.
Japan Airlines Mileage Bank offers some great ways to use your miles. You can book flights on Japan Airlines with access to award seats 360 days in advance – perfect for finding first and business class seats that often disappear quickly. The program also has valuable redemption rates for flights on other airlines, including oneworld partners like American Airlines, plus Air France and Emirates. Their distance-based award chart and oneworld multi-airline award chart can offer excellent value, especially for business class travel with stopovers.
Be sure to create a JAL loyalty account as soon as possible if you don’t already have one, as you’ll have to wait 60 days before you can transfer points into your loyalty account.
Qatar Airways Privilege Club will have a 1:1 transfer ratio with Capital One, while Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ I Prefer Hotel Rewards program will have a 1:2 ratio.

Our Take
Our team is excited about these new partnerships because they opens up fresh opportunities for points travelers. Japan Airlines Mileage Bank has been hard to access until now, making this addition truly valuable. The program’s strength lies in booking Japan Airlines flights when schedules first open and using their distance-based charts for partner airline redemptions that can save you thousands of miles compared to other programs.
While we love this new option, there are some important details to remember. The standard 4:3 transfer ratio isn’t ideal (though the current bonus helps), however there will be far more award availability through JAL for these competitive bookings, so that makes this transfer relationship valuable even though it’s not a 1:1 transfer ratio.
It’s important to note that Japan Airlines has strict rules about only booking awards for family members related by blood or marriage. The program has some quirks that make it less straightforward than others, so you’ll want to do your homework before transferring your hard-earned Capital One miles. Still, for the right trips, this new transfer option could deliver exceptional value.
The addition of Qatar Airways and Preferred Hotels & Resorts are the icing on the cake for Capital One’s new partnerships.
