Chase has launched a new elevated welcome offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, giving new cardholders the opportunity to earn 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $5,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. The new offer represents a 25,000-point increase over the card’s previous 75,000-point welcome bonus and marks one of the strongest publicly available offers we’ve seen on the Sapphire Preferred in a while.

The elevated offer arrives shortly after Chase announced a series of significant changes to the Sapphire Preferred card. The refresh introduced several new statement credits and lifestyle-focused benefits designed to provide additional value throughout the year. However, the updates were not universally positive. Among the most notable changes was an adjustment to Chase’s relationship with World of Hyatt, which effectively reduced the value cardholders can receive when transferring Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt. Given that Hyatt has long been considered one of the most valuable transfer partners in the Chase ecosystem, many points and miles enthusiasts viewed the change as a meaningful devaluation despite the addition of new perks.

Our Take

The timing of this offer is interesting. Chase appears to be offsetting some of the negative reaction to the Sapphire Preferred’s recent changes by rolling out a substantially larger welcome bonus. While we were disappointed to see the reduction in value when transferring points to Hyatt, there’s no denying that an additional 25,000 Ultimate Rewards points helps soften the blow for new applicants.

We still believe this elevated offer deserves serious attention from travelers looking to earn flexible rewards. A 100,000-point bonus can unlock significant value through Chase’s transfer partners and travel redemption options. That said, we would rather see Chase preserve the exceptional value of its Hyatt partnership. For many points and miles enthusiasts, strong transfer partners remain far more valuable than a growing list of lifestyle perks or credits, making the Hyatt devaluation the most important long-term change to watch despite the excitement surrounding this welcome offer.
