Our Take

This is a good card for loyal American Airlines customers who can qualify for business cards, though this card is currently only available through a product change and isn’t available to new applicants. It also doesn’t currently have a welcome offer.

However, if you are able to get this card, you can enjoy 2X miles on American Airlines purchases and 2X miles per $1 spent on office supply, telecom, and car rental purchases. You’ll also get your first checked bag free on domestic American Airlines flights for you and up to four companions traveling with you on the same reservation. Plus, with no foreign transaction fees, you can take this card with you to international destinations.

American Airlines miles can be difficult to earn without some kind of co-branded American Airlines credit card helping you out. Since you can’t transfer points from any major transferable points program (with the exception of Marriott Bonvoy which doesn’t have a great ratio, 3:1) it’s not a bad idea to have a co-branded American Airlines card in your wallet if you want to earn points with this airline. Whether or not this card is the one to get depends on your situation, including whether or not you’re eligible to product change to it from another Barclays card.
