Our Take

The Atmos™ Rewards Ascent Visa Signature® credit card is a mid-level airline card for people who fly Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines regularly. Its welcome offer changes from time to time, so check the current terms, but the card’s long-term value largely comes from two perks: the annual $99 Companion Fare (plus taxes and fees starting at $23) and the free checked bag.

Start with the trade-offs. The Companion Fare isn’t automatic. You earn it each account anniversary by spending $6,000 or more in purchases during the prior account anniversary year. It’s only valid on Alaska and Hawaiian flights within North America booked on alaskaair.com, and you still pay taxes and fees. Everyday earning is modest, at 1 point per $1 spent outside the bonus categories. And the card carries an annual fee, so you need to use the perks to make it worthwhile.

Here’s where it pays off. You earn 3 points per $1 spent on eligible Alaska and Hawaiian purchases, and 2 points per $1 on eligible gas, EV charging, cable, streaming, and local transit, including rideshare. When you pay for a flight with the card, you get a free checked bag and preferred boarding for you and up to six guests on the same reservation. That adds up quickly for families and anyone who checks a bag. If you have an eligible Bank of America® account, you also earn a 10% rewards bonus on points from card purchases. You can use your points with oneworld® partners as well as Alaska and Hawaiian, and there are no foreign transaction fees.

This card fits if you fly Alaska or Hawaiian a few times a year, check bags, and can reasonably meet the spending threshold for the Companion Fare. Skip it if you don’t live near Alaska or Hawaiian service, or if you want a flexible points card for everyday spending.
