Overview of the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian

As the name might suggest, the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian Hotel is found in Legian, which is a great part of Bali to visit. It’s a beautiful space, and the hotel itself features a terrace, garden, restaurant and bar.

I would call the Fairfield Bali Legian a luxury boutique hotel. It features 160 guest rooms and two meeting rooms. The suites are all sleek and spacious, and they’re furnished with wood tiling and soft paint for the walls and ceiling.

While I’d lean toward calling this a boutique hotel, it’s a bit larger than what I’d normally consider a boutique hotel to be, but it’s definitely not a mega resort. The overall vibe of the hotel will depend on occupancy rates during your stay.

Overall, I think this hotel focuses more on families because there’s a central pool area and there were quite a few kids around during my stay. Keep this in mind if you opt for or are upgraded to one of the pool-facing rooms (like we were). However, couples, singles and businesspeople will find something to enjoy here. Additionally, I noticed a few partiers while I stayed at the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian, too, likely due to its central location and reasonable prices.

How I Booked the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian

I booked a guest room with one king bed and pool view with a balcony for 29,500 Marriott Bonvoy points for a five-night stay. My boyfriend and I specifically stayed for five nights to make use of Marriott’s fifth night free promo on award stays. Paid rates are often fairly reasonable at this hotel, too, so it’s always worthwhile to compare.

Because of the award rate at this property, it’s usually possible to book a stay here with the various free night award certificates offered by co-branded Marriott credit cards. However, it’s generally a better idea to save the certificates for more expensive Marriott properties and book the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian with points as it’s usually priced relatively low.

Marriott points can be earned with the following credit cards:

Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian Location

The hotel is located in the Legian neighborhood in Kuta. The address is Jl. Sri Rama. The area around the hotel is pretty bustling, so it’s a common place for visitors to stay. Plus, it’s a great area for getting around to other parts of Bali you might want to visit.

The hotel is about a 15-minute drive from the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, depending on traffic. Most people take rentals or taxis, but Grab, a mobile app similar to Uber, is the best and easiest way to travel from the airport to the hotel and in general to get around Bali.

Best Parts of the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian

Pool at the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian

I enjoyed just about everything at the Fairfield Bali Legian Hotel, but I wanted to highlight three specific things so that you would get an idea of what it offers:

  • The pool: The pool at the Fairfield Bali Legian was one of my favorites of the hotels I stayed at in Bali, even if it was a little bit crowded sometimes.
  • Breakfast: The complimentary breakfast due to my boyfriend’s Marriott Platinum Elite status offered plenty of delicious options.
  • Welcoming staff: The staff are always accommodating and have a good-natured attitude.
  • Clean rooms: I have to say that the room was impeccably clean. There were no stains or missed trash bins anywhere.

Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian Drawbacks

I had to dig deep to find a few drawbacks to talk about, and they are by no means deal-breakers. However, it’s important to know what you’ll get when you go to the Fairfield Bali Legian. Here are a few things I noticed:

  • Small parking area: While we didn’t have a vehicle, we did notice that the parking area for the hotel was quite small. It’s probably not worthwhile to rent a vehicle in most cases while staying this close to the airport because Grab is readily available and affordable, but it’s worth keeping in mind if you plan to rent a car or bike.
  • Noise around the pool area: Because there were quite a few kids around and we stayed in a pool-facing room, it did get a bit noisy in our room. In retrospect, I probably would have preferred a room a bit further away from the pool.

Getting to Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian

I stayed at the Fairfield by Marriott Bali South Kuta for one night prior to moving to the Fairfield Bali Legian. It was only about 3 miles away, so it didn’t take much time at all. In fact, if I had been feeling ambitious I probably could have even walked because it’s not that far.

In the end, I ordered a ride through Grab and had the driver take me to the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian, which took about 10 minutes even with Bali’s bad traffic.

If you’re coming to Fairfield Bali Legian from the airport, it should take 15 to 20 minutes to get there, depending on traffic. Regardless, it won’t take much time, and you’ll be on your way to checking in and relaxing.

Check-In

When I got to the hotel, I entered the hotel’s front entrance. I was automatically greeted at the door, and someone was there to escort me to the front desk. He offered to carry my bags, but I didn’t need assistance. When I got to the service desk, my boyfriend provided his name as we had booked the reservation through his account, and they looked it up quickly.

The staff member who helped us immediately recognized my boyfriend’s Platinum Elite status and let us know that we’d been upgraded from the guest room with a king bed, pool view and balcony to a guest room with a king bed, poolside view and on the ground floor—with direct access from the patio door of our room to the pool. He also let us know that we’d have complimentary breakfast.

The Room at Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian

The ground floor and the balcony rooms are 323 square feet, and they have similar amenities, such as a shower, complimentary robe, hair dryer, alarm clock, television, mini fridge and air conditioning. The only real difference between the two rooms is the existence or nonexistence of a balcony—which one is truly an upgrade would depend on the person. Having said that, it was nice to walk straight out of the room and into the pool.

I would say that the vibe I received from the ground-floor guest room was welcoming and warm. The layout of the room was comfortable, and it offered a good amount of space for two people. We walked in and saw the large bed, and there was a television hung on the wall with wooden paneling around it. The space seemed bright because of the tile and paint on the walls, and there was nothing too ornate about it.

Pool view at the Fairfield Bali Legian

The best part was seeing the pool through the opened curtains. The room had a small desk, a desk chair and an armchair, but I instantly noticed the pool and became mesmerized by the water…it made it a bit hard to get any work done.

Bathroom at the Fairfield Bali Legian

Overall, the bathroom was quite small, but it was spacious enough to do what was needed. The colors were neutral, and there was a deep sink, two glasses and space for extra towels. Our room didn’t have a bathtub, but there was a gorgeous stand-up shower with a seat and both a hand-held shower head and an overhead rain shower.

There were plenty of amenities in the room, such as a coffee/tea maker, complimentary bottled water, room service, a mini fridge, a robe, slippers and air conditioning.

There were a few outlets, but they weren’t the easiest to find or use. In fact, I had to bend down and almost crawl under the bedside table to reach them. However, they’re there if you know where to look.

Food and Drink

Breakfast at Tebu Merah Restaurant at Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian

The breakfast at Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian is complimentary for Platinum and above Bonvoy members. | Photo by Charlie Lewis

I enjoyed the complimentary breakfast that was a benefit of my boyfriend’s Platinum Elite status, but I didn’t dine at the hotel any other time. Tebu Merah Restaurant serves all three meals, and I ate there for breakfast. The complimentary breakfast featured a beautiful buffet with plenty of options no matter what your breakfast tastes are.

There was also a pool bar that offered a light menu, fruit juice and cocktails. I didn’t try any of the fare or beverages, so I’m not sure how good they are.

If you don’t want to dine at either of those two options, there are restaurants nearby, including La Plancha, Da Maria, Potato Head Beach Club and Tropicola. Most of the restaurants use a casual dress code, but you might want to ask the staff at the hotel before heading out in case you’re supposed to be dressed up. There are a few ultra-local (and inexpensive) spots within walking distance of the hotel that we dined at and enjoyed.

Amenities

The amenities were what you’d find at most other hotels. Each room had slippers, a robe, a hair dryer and a shower. Plus, there were a few chairs, an alarm clock, a safe in the room, complimentary bottled water, a mini fridge, a coffee/tea maker and free Wi-Fi.

Likewise, there was a desk, cable or satellite TV, a radio, air conditioning, a walk-in closet and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Fitness center at the Fairfield Bali Legian

The pool was outside, which led to a poolside bar, and there was a separate pool for children. Guests who aren’t ready to hit the water can enjoy the sun umbrellas on the sun deck. Likewise, there were plenty of activities to enjoy with the kids, and we could work out in the fitness center. Dry cleaning and laundry service were available, but I didn’t use them.

We also felt safe with the 24-hour security that worked around the clock.

Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian – Family Friendliness

I would say that the Fairfield Bali Legian Hotel is family-friendly. In fact, children stay free, which means you can save money and still enjoy beautiful accommodations. Likewise, there were plenty of children’s activities available, but they depended on the day. Additionally, there’s a separate pool for kids, which is safer for families in general. There were a bunch of kids around during my stay, so that’s something to keep in mind if you prefer a more adults-only vibe.

Although the kids’ pool is the safest choice when you have little ones, they are allowed to go to the regular outdoor pool. However, they will see adults drinking alcoholic beverages if it’s late in the day, so that’s something to consider for you and your family.

Final Thoughts on Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian

Overall, my impression of the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian was that it was welcoming, inviting and made me feel the tropical vibe of the area. It’s close to many other hotels and the airport, so you shouldn’t have a problem getting there.

Since it’s part of the Marriott chain, you can use your Marriott Bonvoy points to book a stay, and it’s a great deal with Marriott’s fifth night free on award bookings. Bonus if you have Platinum Elite status or higher and can get the complimentary breakfast.

Families will likely enjoy the hotel because it doesn’t charge extra for children, offers kid-friendly activities and even has a children’s pool. I have to say that it was an excellent choice, even with the minor drawbacks I experienced.
