Overview of the Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Ungasan

The Four Points by Sheraton Bali Ungasan overlooks Jimbaran Bay with its bright blue waters. Travelers will receive an affordable and stylish experience, and there are plenty of modern amenities and attentive service.

The hotel is actually in a former fishing village and offers great views of the surrounding area. The guest rooms are spacious, and I feel that it looks like a more upscale hotel, but there were significant problems with service during my stay.

There are 270 guest rooms, and they’re all decorated to feel like you’re on an island. In fact, you’ll feel the brightness when you walk in and can easily relax after a day of sightseeing.

I don’t feel that the hotel focuses on one type of person. It’s ideal for couples, partiers, families and businesspeople. You’ll enjoy the quiet space it offers and can get rowdy without worrying about the other guests getting annoying.

How I Booked the Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Ungasan

I booked a larger guest room with one king bed, with a balcony and bay view for 26,000 Marriott Bonvoy points for a five-night stay. My boyfriend and I stayed for five nights to make use of Marriott’s fifth night free on award stays. Paid rates are often fairly reasonable at this hotel, too, so it’s always worthwhile to compare.

Due to the award price of this hotel, it’s usually possible to book this hotel with the various free night award certificates offered by co-branded Marriott credit cards, though it’s generally a better idea to book with points as this hotel is priced relatively low and save the certificate for more expensive Marriott properties.

Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Ungasan Location

The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel is located in Ungasan, Bali. The address is Uluwatu St. Banjar Giri Dharma. Overall, Uluwatu is well known as Bali’s surf destination, but this property is located right in the center of Uluwatu so it’s not super close to any of the beaches. If you stay here but want to do the beach thing, be prepared to jump in a Grab taxi.

That said, it is a great central destination for exploring Uluwatu, especially if you want to do more than just surf or sunbathe.

The Four Points by Sheraton Bali Ungasan is about 7 miles from the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. You can expect to spend 20 to 30 minutes to get there, depending on traffic.

Best Parts of the Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Ungasan

I enjoyed many things about the Four Points by Sheraton Bali Ungasan. Here are the top things I wanted to point out:

• Friendly and excellent employees: Everyone who worked there was happy to help us, even though the hotel was incredibly busy during our stay. The staff members were always around, and they showed great enthusiasm.
• Spacious rooms: Although I tried to use suite upgrades and wasn’t able to, the room I received was large and roomy. I felt like it could have housed an entire family. While I didn’t need that much space, it was nice to spread out.
• Amazing views: The views of the surrounding area from our balcony were great.
• Excellent amenities: The room amenities were pretty straightforward and included housekeeping, air conditioning, complimentary bathrobes, cable and a coffee/tea maker. The pool was worth writing home about.

Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Ungasan Drawbacks

I will say that there were a few drawbacks that I noticed. Although they aren’t deal-breakers, you may want to consider them before booking a stay here.

• Poor Wi-Fi: When I travel, I often work, too. Even those who don’t need to work probably like to check social media and email. Although there was free Wi-Fi, it wasn’t the best. Many times, I switched to my data just to upload photos. There is an option to purchase internet, but that didn’t seem worth it to me. Instead, I simply waited for things to upload or used the phone’s data. If you don’t have an international plan or a local SIM card, you may want to consider buying the stronger internet service.
• Quite noisy: Although it seemed like the windows and walls were thick, noise carried a bit. The noise from the busy street nearby was excessive.
• Slow service: The hotel was incredibly busy during part of our stay, and service was slow—honestly, the slowest I’ve ever experienced. Luckily, I did experience a few days when the hotel was not at full occupancy and it was much better, so I hope that it was a fluke.
• Odd bathrooms: I’m not sure if all the bathrooms are the same, but my room included a bathroom with frosted glass doors. If you’re looking for more privacy, it may be better to choose a different hotel.

Getting to Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Ungasan

I was staying at the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian before I moved to the Four Points by Sheraton Bali Ungasan. These hotels were about 7 miles from each other, and it took us a little over 30 minutes in a Grab to get there.

If you come from the Bali International Airport, it will be about 7 miles, but probably a bit shorter of a ride because of how the traffic typically flows in the area.

Check-In

Check-in wasn’t as easy as it could have been. Yes, the staff was accommodating and friendly, and they looked me up quickly. I had booked the larger guest room with a king-size bed, balcony and bay view. Unfortunately, the hotel was busy during our stay, so the slow check-in was just a taste of what was to come. We had applied suite upgrades to our stay, but those did not clear prior to check-in.

Even though the upgrades didn’t clear and check-in was a bit slow, we were upgraded to a Deluxe Bay View Room with a balcony. Since my boyfriend has Platinum Elite status with Marriott, we were also told about the complimentary breakfast.

The Room at Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Ungasan

I had booked a larger guest room, which included a balcony with a bay view and a king-sized bed. It was 463 square feet and included air conditioning, 24-hour room service, complimentary bottled water, instant hot water, a safe, one chair and table, a sofa and cable television. We also got slippers, a hair dryer and a bidet.

Since my suite upgrades didn’t clear and my boyfriend is a Platinum Elite member, the staff upgraded us to a deluxe bay view room, which included the same amenities as the larger guest room.

When we walked in, we got a Bali vibe like no other. The room was decorated in deep reds and oranges, and the beautiful lamp above the bed just gave it a touch I never expected to see. The walls and furniture were neutral, so the room felt perfectly cozy and bright. The floor was made of light-colored marble-like tiles, and there was a large window to let in more light.

There was a large closet area to put our things, and the bathroom was pretty spacious. However, the doors were frosted glass, so we felt that the bathroom didn’t offer much privacy. Although there was no bathtub, the shower was large. There was no seat, but there was a handle to help steady yourself if necessary.

Overall, I feel that the room itself was solid and true to the Bali colors and lifestyle. However, the bathroom was lacking in many areas. For example, it was plain compared to the rest of the room, and it featured frosted glass doors, which meant if you were staying with family or friends, it may not provide enough privacy. The bathroom wasn’t my favorite, but the rest of the room was nice enough to overcome it.

Food and Drink

The Four Points by Sheraton Bali Ungasan Hotel has a rooftop restaurant called Evolution Restaurant and Bar. It’s where we went to enjoy the complimentary breakfast. Although I checked the menu, I didn’t eat at this establishment for lunch or dinner. Still, it featured Indonesian cuisine and had a large list for craft beers and wines.

We ordered room service one night, but it wasn’t a great experience. Our order was initially forgotten, and it took over two hours to receive our food. When the food finally came, it really wasn’t the best. However, we were not charged for it due to the mistake with our order. This was during the time when the hotel was at full occupancy, so I hope it was just a one-off.

If you don’t fancy eating at the hotel restaurant and bar, there are many options available. For example, you can eat at Double Ikat, which offers Indonesian food; Clay Craft, which offers international options; or Wildflour Café & Restaurant, which has an upbeat environment. Rendang Roll Bali Jimbaran is located just outside of the hotel and has delicious and cheap Indonesian food, too.

Amenities

There were plenty of amenities to like at the Four Points by Sheraton Bali Ungasan. It offered two outdoor pools, a meeting space and a convenience store. Plus, we had access to 24-hour room service, wake-up calls, daily housekeeping and a laundry and dry-cleaning service.

Most people spend their time at one of the pools. I personally preferred the adult-only infinity pool, but it’s great that the hotel has a second pool option dedicated to families.

We also found a fitness center and spa available. The fitness center had treadmills and other popular machines, so we could get our workout in while overlooking the infinity pool. Likewise, the spa offered many services, but I didn’t use any of them, so I can’t talk about the quality or value.

Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Ungasan – Family Friendliness

There was no kids’ lounge or children’s activities available at the Four Points by Sheraton Bali Ungasan. However, it did offer a children’s pool, which was round and sat away from the infinity pool. Likewise, children stay free, so you don’t pay extra to have the family with you.

During the time that the hotel was at full occupancy, we did see quite a few families, but after things calmed down, there were not as many families around. That said, since the two pools were set away from each other, it was easy to not realize how many kids were around.

Final Thoughts on Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Ungasan

We did experience some problems with service at the Four Points by Sheraton Bali Ungasan, but I think the hotel was unprepared for two nights of full occupancy during a holiday in Bali. When the hotel was back to more reasonable occupancy levels, service was greatly improved.

The infinity pool and delicious donuts at breakfast were two of the highlights of our stay, and we loved the view of Uluwatu from our balcony. For the redemption rate of 26,000 Bonvoy points for five nights, this hotel is tough to beat in value, and I would definitely consider staying here again.
