Guide to Bali Hotels

Overview of Hyatt Regency Bali

The Hyatt Regency Bali is an upscale hotel with 363 rooms, which includes 39 suites. They’re decorated to be elegant, but still focus on the Balinese vibe. You’ll see warm tones and ocean/aquatic hues as well. The rooms feature wood paneling, bamboo and marble in the bathroom to give you a feeling of style and sophistication on your trip.

While this is a large property, I felt that it gave a more boutique vibe because of its layout. Depending on the area of the hotel you’re in, you may feel like you’re in a smaller hotel and there’s definitely plenty to explore. Overall, you’ll have the space needed to relax after a long day of sightseeing.

I wouldn’t say the hotel focuses on a particular person or type. It’s ideal for families, couples and solo travelers on business trips or vacations. It’s close to the main attractions and the ocean.

How I Booked Hyatt Regency Bali

I initially booked a seven-night stay in a one-king-bed room for 36,500 World of Hyatt points. I immediately emailed my Hyatt concierge to apply one of my Globalist Suite Night Awards (SNA) to upgrade myself to a Regency Suite for the length of the stay.

One Suite Night Award is valid to upgrade up to seven nights to a standard suite and is confirmed immediately as long as the suite is available. This hotel was a Category 1 Hyatt property when I booked it, but it has since increased to a Category 2, which is bookable for 6,500 to 9,500 points per night in standard rooms. Standard suites are also bookable for 11,500 to 14,500 points per night.

A standard room at a Category 2 property can be booked with the free night certificate offered by The World of Hyatt Credit Card and The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card. Both of these cards offer a great way to earn Hyatt points as well. Because Category 2 properties can be booked from only 6,500 points per night, it’s not the best use of your free night certificate unless it’s going to expire.

Hyatt is a 1:1 transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards, so you can also earn points needed to book this hotel with the following Chase cards:

You’ll find the Hyatt Regency Bali at Jl. Danau Tamblingan No.89, which is in Sanur, Bali. It’s a well-traveled area, and many tourists stay here. However, it’s not in the middle of all the bustle of the city, so you’ll still get peace and quiet during your stay. The hotel is located on the beach, and there’s a ton to explore within walking distance, including great restaurants, a night market, spas and salons.

Best Parts of Hyatt Regency Bali

I truly enjoyed my stay at the Hyatt Regency Bali, and there were many things to like about it. Although I’d love to mention them all, I’ll stick with the top five here:

  • The lounge: I’m used to getting lounge access because of my status at many Hyatt properties, and the Hyatt Regency Bali offers a great lounge. It was beautiful and offered both a breakfast buffet and evening snacks and drinks. The exact offers change every day, so even after staying for a week, we weren’t bored with the food. We got eggs cooked to order and many options. The space itself is breathtakingly beautiful.
  • Plenty of sights: There’s a “boardwalk” of sorts around the hotel, so you’ll find boutique shops and restaurants available. Plus, it goes down to the beach, so you can get your fill of sand and sun while you’re here. The hotel and the area surrounding the hotel is relatively easy to navigate.
  • The staff: When visiting a hotel for accommodations, one generally expects pleasant employees, but I felt the staff at Hyatt Regency Bali went above and beyond. They would greet everyone they encountered and still continued working, but we never worried we were bothering them. It just made you think you were part of a loving family!
  • Resort activities: The resort offers various activities including bicycle tours, yoga, water aerobics, stone carving and more. Some of the activities have an additional charge, while others are free but the options are plentiful each day.
  • Kids’ pool: While I don’t have kids, I think it’s great that this hotel has a dedicated kids’ pool. (Children also can use the main pool.)

Hyatt Regency Bali Drawbacks

Although there were so many great things about the hotel, I noticed a few drawbacks. That’s bound to happen anywhere you stay, and I don’t want it to detract from the amazing people and location. However, I want to point out these potential issues so that others are aware.

  • Air conditioning: The Hyatt Regency Bali has air conditioning in the rooms and throughout the building. However, it’s not always sufficient to beat the Bali heat. I heard some guests complaining of the heat, and I felt it was hot on some days as well.
  • Not enough sunbeds: I feel like this is a complaint I often have about resort hotels but there weren’t enough sunbeds available for all the guests who wanted one. Luckily, I was working during my stay here, so I spent quite a bit of time in my suite, but if I had been traveling purely for leisure and had intended to spend my day at the pool, I would have been disappointed about this.

Getting to Hyatt Regency Bali

I came to the Hyatt Regency Bali from the Fairfeild by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road with a Grab taxi, and it took about 20 minutes.

Overall, I’ve found that Grab is the easiest way to travel in Bali, and I used the app anytime I had to go anywhere. You get to sit back and relax while the driver takes you wherever you want in their vehicle, and it’s also possible to go on the back of a scooter and beat some of the traffic if you’re solo.

Although I came from another hotel, you might be heading to the Hyatt Regency Bali from the airport. It will take about 30 minutes to get to your destination from the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Check-In

When I got to the Hyatt Regency Bali, I went straight to the welcome desk to check in. A staff member was already there waiting for me. They greeted me warmly and asked if I needed help with my bags.

After giving them my name, they looked me up and confirmed my upgrade to the Regency Suite with complimentary breakfast and lounge access due to my Globalist status.

The Room at Hyatt Regency Bali

The one-king room I had booked offered 290 square feet of space and featured a private balcony and amenities, such as a standing shower, individual air conditioning, a coffee/tea maker and a 55-inch LCD TV.

My upgraded Regency Suite had a king-size bed, and anywhere from 580 to 840 square feet of space (the size of the Regency Suites can vary significantly depending on which layout you get). I think my room was on the larger side of that range. There was a big bathroom with a tub, and we also had a living/dining area with a garden landscape.

The vibe from the Regency Suite was inviting and welcoming. We initially walked in to see the living room and dining area with a second bathroom with shower, and the bedroom was off to the side. There was a door we could shut, and the bedroom and living room both opened up to a massive balcony with comfortable seating.

The room was a little on the dark side because it had bamboo panels on the walls and hardwood flooring. However, there were two lamps on either side of the bed, which worked well enough. During the day, opening the curtains brought in plenty of light.

Overall, I enjoyed the room’s layout and thought it was comfortable. However, I’ll say that the air conditioner didn’t work the best for the large room and environment. Bali is a tropical location, and I often felt a little warm.

Regency Suite bathroom at the Hyatt Regency Bali

Let’s turn our attention to the bathroom. I loved everything about the Regency Suite bathroom. There were two luxurious sinks and plenty of towels. Additionally, there was a walk-in shower. However, the thing that got me was the gorgeous tub. It was set to the side and had marble stones all around it to make it look like a natural oasis.

The water pressure was good, and the hot water came freely. Since this is a Hyatt hotel, the toiletries were from the KenetMD Signature Collection. It featured eucalyptus and lemongrass scents.

The amenities were similar to what you’d find in any hotel and included a safe in the room, an iron/ironing board, complimentary Wi-Fi, a large 65-inch television, a coffee/tea maker and air conditioning. Plus, there were plenty of outlets by the beds and around the television, so we could keep everything charged and ready for action.

Food and Drink

Regency Club at the Hyatt Regency Bali

Normally, I don’t drink or dine at the hotels I stay at, but I did here, thanks to the Regency Club access I had as a Globalist member. I received a complimentary breakfast for each morning of my stay of seven nights, and there were many options available. The Regency Club also offered evening snacks and drinks, but the snacks were more than sufficient to be an entire meal. We ate most of our dinners in the lounge.

For those who don’t have access or don’t want to eat at the lounge, there are also three restaurants onsite: Piano Lounge, Pizzaria and Omang Omang. Pizzaria offers Italian food and has a happy hour. Omang Omang is an Indonesian grill and restaurant that serves BBQ in the summer. Usually, there’s entertainment. Then, you have the Piano Lounge, which offers various beverages throughout the day.

If you don’t want to eat at the hotel, there are other options within walking distance. A few of them include Juicy and Crispy, La Playa, and Hey, Ni Hao as well as the night market.

As you wander the property, you can find some nice secluded areas that are great for reading a book or having a nice conversation.

There is also a large fitness center with plenty of workout equipment including free weights, machines and a squat rack. It’s one of the better hotel gyms I’ve seen. On some days, they offered yoga classes as well.

Other amenities include a hot tub, sauna, poolside bar, evening entertainment and a spa.

Hyatt Regency Bali Family Friendliness

The Hyatt Regency Bali is family-friendly, and I saw many families there during my stay. There’s a separate children’s pool and a playground.

Final Thoughts on Hyatt Regency Bali

I enjoyed my stay at the Hyatt Regency Bali. I was upgraded to a Regency Suite with complimentary breakfast and lounge access, thanks to my Globalist status and a Suite Night Award.

The hotel is within walking distance to many shops and the beach, but I often went into other parts of the city and used Grab as my transportation of choice. Regardless, you can get there without trouble from the Bali International Airport, and it has many amenities to help you feel like you’ve taken the tropical getaway you booked.

As a Category 1 Hyatt hotel, this property was an absolute steal, but I’d definitely still consider staying again now that it’s been changed to a Category 2.
