Greece has long been a favorite vacation destination for U.S.-based travelers. And, if you’ve already been to Greece or have been looking into traveling there, you may be familiar with Aegean Airlines, the nation’s flag carrier and largest airline by fleet size, passengers carried and number of destinations served. Aegean Airlines has its own frequent flyer program, known as Miles+Bonus, which can offer some great value if you’re able to rack up enough miles to purchase an award flight.

Aegean Airlines is a member of Star Alliance, which means that Miles+Bonus members can use Aegean miles to purchase award travel on any Star Alliance airline (including Air Canada and United Airlines).

Unfortunately, the Aegean Miles+Bonus program isn’t a transfer partner of any of the major transferable credit card rewards programs (such as American Express Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards). Thus, the only really effective ways to earn Aegean miles are to take flights on Aegean Airlines or credit flights from a partner airline to the Miles+Bonus program.

But, if you manage to rack up a balance of Aegean miles, you can get good value out of them because the Miles+Bonus program prices all partner flights as well as Aegean domestic flights according to fixed award charts. Plus, this program prices Aegean international flights using mileage multipliers, which can provide good value for savvy spenders.

In this article, we’re going to provide all of the Aegean Miles+Bonus program’s award charts in one place to help you search for sweet spots.

Miles+Bonus Award Charts for Flights on Aegean Airlines (and Olympic Air)

The Miles+Bonus program prices award flights operated by Aegean Airlines differently based on whether that flight is domestic or international. Domestic Aegean Airlines flights are based on fixed award charts, while the prices of international Aegean flights are a multiple of the actual distance of that flight in miles.

Miles+Bonus members can also use miles to purchase award flights operated by Olympic Air (a subsidiary of Aegean Airlines). Olympic Air award flights are priced the exact same way as Aegean Airlines award flights.

Domestic

Aegean Airlines domestic award flights are based on the following fixed award chart:

Cabin classEconomy FlexEconomy Comfort FlexBusiness
Mileage required for Aegean domestic award flights5,0007,50010,000

The award chart above includes the award rates for one-way travel. If you wish to know the price of a round-trip domestic Aegean award flight, you can simply double the applicable rate in the chart above.

If your flight includes a layover, but the two segments of the flight have the same flight number, that will be considered one flight. However, if your itinerary includes a layover, and the flight number changes, the airline will consider it two flights, and you’ll be required to pay double the number of miles listed in the chart above.

International

As mentioned above, the prices of international Aegean Airlines-operated award flights are a multiplier of the actual distance of the flight. However, there is a minimum number of miles you’ll need to pay for all Aegean international flight awards depending on the cabin class. The following award chart explains how many Aegean miles you’ll need for these kinds of awards:

Cabin classEconomy FlexEconomy Comfort FlexBusiness
Mileage required for Aegean international award flights (as a multiple of actual flight distance in miles)8X10X15X
Minimum mileage required for international award flights7,0009,00015,000

For example, if you were to fly one-way in Aegean Airlines Economy Comfort Flex from Athens, Greece (ATH) to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (AUH), which has a flight distance of about 2,000 miles, it would cost you about 20,000 Aegean miles (2,000 miles x 10 = 20,000 Aegean miles). In this case, you would apply the multiplier rate because it exceeds the minimum rate.

On the other hand, let’s say you were taking a one-way international flight in Aegean Airlines Economy Flex from Athens, Greece (ATH) to Tirana, Albania (TIA), which has a flight distance of about 330 miles. In this case, if you applied the multiplier rate, it would give you 2,640 Aegean miles, which is less than the minimum. So, you’d have to pay the minimum rate for Economy Flex award flights, which is 7,000 Aegean miles.

Then, find the row that corresponds with the cabin class you wish to book in. These rows are denoted as such:

  • Economy Class – Y
  • Business Class – C
  • First Class – F

Miles+Bonus Award Chart for Upgrades on Aegean Airlines (and Olympic Air)

Members of the Miles+Bonus program may also redeem miles for cabin class upgrades on Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air flights. Domestic upgrade awards on Aegean and Olympic have a fixed price, while international upgrade awards are calculated as a multiple of the actual distance of the flight in miles.

In order to book an upgrade award, you must be booked on a paid Aegean Airlines or Olympic Air flight in either Economy Flex or Economy Comfort Flex. Booking classes U, P and T are not eligible for upgrade awards. All upgrade awards elevate your cabin class to business class.

The fixed price for all domestic upgrade awards on Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air is 5,000 miles per segment.

For international flight upgrade awards, the price is the greater of the following two options:

  • 8X the actual distance of the desired flight in miles
  • 7,000 miles minimum

For example, if you wanted to upgrade an Aegean Airlines one-way direct flight from Athens, Greece (ATH) to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (AUH), which has a flight distance of about 2,000 miles, it would cost you 16,000 miles (2,000 miles x 8 = 16,000 Aegean miles). In this case you would apply the multiplier rate because it’s higher than the minimum rate.

On the other hand, if you wanted to upgrade an Aegean Airlines one-way direct flight from Athens, Greece (ATH) to Tirana, Albania (TIA), which has a flight distance of about 330 miles, it would cost you 7,000 miles because the minimum rate is greater than the multiplier rate (which would be 2,640 in this case).

Miles+Bonus Award Chart for Upgrades on Star Alliance Partners

All Star Alliance upgrade awards are priced according to a zone-based award chart. This award chart uses the same zones that are used for the award chart for Star Alliance award flights. You can find a table that includes which geographic regions are included in each zone in the “Miles+Bonus Award Charts for Flights on Star Alliance Partners” section above.

Star Alliance upgrades are also priced depending on whether you’re upgrading from economy (or premium economy) to business class or from business class to first class. You cannot upgrade directly from economy (or premium economy) to first class using Star Alliance upgrades purchased through the Miles+Bonus program. Each kind of upgrade is denoted in the award chart as follows:

  • Economy (or Premium Economy) to Business Class – C
  • Business to First Class – F

The following region-based award chart includes the rates for upgrade awards on Star Alliance partner flights booked through the Miles+Bonus program:

The Bottom Line

If you often fly on Aegean Airlines or one of its Star Alliance partners, it’s definitely worth familiarizing yourself with this airline’s Miles+Bonus frequent flyer program. Through this program, you can rack up award miles, which can later be redeemed for flights and cabin-class upgrades on Aegean Airlines or any other member airline of Star Alliance.

Plus, partner flights and upgrade awards purchased through the Aegean Miles+Bonus program are priced according to fixed region-based award charts. This means that you can find certain redemptions that offer outsized value (more than 1 cent per mile) with some searching. To help make this search easier, we’ve produced all of these award charts in the sections above.

Aegean Airlines international flight awards and upgrade awards, on the other hand, are priced in a fairly unique way. These awards are priced as a multiple of the actual distance of the flight. So, if you can find Aegean international flights that have fairly high cash prices relative to their flight distance, you can find outsized value on these kinds of awards as well.

Unfortunately, the biggest drawback to the Aegean Airlines Miles+Bonus program is that it’s not a transfer partner of any of the major transferable credit card rewards programs (such as American Express Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards). This means that the best way to earn Aegean miles is to credit flights on Aegean or one of its Star Alliance partners, which can take a long time.
