If you’ve traveled to Mexico from the U.S., there’s a good chance that you’ve flown on Aeromexico, the nation’s flag carrier and largest airline. Aeromexico operates its own frequent flyer program, known as Aeromexico Rewards, that allows members to collect points by flying with Aeromexico or one of its airline partners, transferring points from credit card rewards programs and in many other ways. These points can then be redeemed in a number of ways, including for free flights.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest drawbacks of the Aeromexico Rewards program is that, while you can use Aeromexico points to book flights on partner airlines, partner award flights can only be booked over the phone. And, in our experience, booking award flights over the phone can be a bit frustrating.

Nonetheless, if you have a sum of Aeromexico Rewards points (or credit card points that can be transferred to Aeromexico Rewards), you may want to purchase an award flight through the Aeromexico Rewards program. So, in this article, we’re going to explain how to join the Aeromexico Rewards program, how to quickly earn Aeromexico points and finally, how to book award flights through the Aeromexico Rewards program.

Joining Aeromexico Rewards

Before you start earning and redeeming Aeromexico points, you’ll need to enroll in the Aeromexico Rewards program. To do so, the first thing you’ll need to do is visit the Aeromexico website homepage and click the “Log in” button in the top-right corner of the screen.

Joining Aeromexico Rewards

Then, you’ll need to select the “Sign up” tab to create a new account. From there, you’ll scroll down and enter your personal information, including your name, date of birth, phone number, country of residence, gender, a unique PIN number and your password.

Once you click the “Create account” button on the bottom of this page, you’ll have created your Aeromexico Rewards account and will receive a unique account number, which you can use to earn points and sign into your account in the future. You should also receive a welcome email.

How To Earn Aeromexico Rewards Points

As a member of the Aeromexico Rewards program, you’ll need to earn Aeromexico points before you can start purchasing award flights. There are many ways to earn points through this program. However, some methods of earning Aeromexico points are far more effective than others.

In the following sections, we’ll look at some of the most effective ways to boost your Aeromexico points balance so you can earn enough for an award flight quickly.

Transfer Credit Card Points

Perhaps the most effective way to earn Aeromexico points is to transfer points from credit card rewards programs. American Express Membership Rewards, Brex, Capital One Rewards and Citi ThankYou Rewards all allow points transfers to the Aeromexico Rewards program for free. All of these programs offer a 1:1 transfer ratio except for Amex Membership Rewards, which offers a 1:1.6 transfer ratio.

So, for example, if you were to transfer 100,000 Capital One Miles to the Aeromexico Rewards program, you would receive 100,000 Aeromexico points in your account within minutes. However, if you were to transfer 100,000 Amex Membership Rewards points to Aeromexico, you would receive 160,000 Aeromexico points with the 1:1.6 transfer ratio.

As you can see, because of its transfer ratio, Amex Membership Rewards is the best of these programs to transfer points from. However, transferring points from Brex, Capital One Rewards or Citi ThankYou Rewards can also be a good idea if you use one of these programs.

Flying With Aeromexico and Partner Airlines

Another effective way to earn Aeromexico points is to take paid flights on Aeromexico or one of its partner airlines. To do so, you’ll need to select Aeromexico Rewards as your frequent flyer program of choice and enter your Aeromexico Rewards account number, either when booking your flight or when checking in.

The number of points you’ll earn for taking paid Aeromexico flights depends on the cost of your airfare (excluding taxes and fees) and whether you have elite status. Classic members (non-elite status members) of the Aeromexico Rewards program will earn 8X points per $1 spent on airfare. Gold elite members will earn 11X, Platinum members will earn 13X points and Titanium members will earn 16X points.

For example, if you took an Aeromexico-operated flight that cost $250 (excluding taxes and fees) and you were a Classic member, you’d earn 2,000 points ($250 x 8 = 2,000 points). If you were a Titanium member, you’d earn 4,000 points ($250 x 16 = 4,000 points).

You can also earn Aeromexico Rewards points by flying with certain partner airlines, including any member airline of SkyTeam Alliance (of which Aeromexico is a member). Here’s the current roster of SkyTeam airlines:

Aerolíneas ArgentinasITA Airways
AeroméxicoKenya Airways
Air EuropaKLM
Air FranceKorean Air
China AirlinesMiddle East Airlines
China Eastern AirlinesSaudia
Czech AirlinesTAROM
Delta Air LinesVietnam Airlines
Garuda IndonesiaVirgin Atlantic
Xiamen Air

In addition to the SkyTeam airlines listed above, Aeromexico has partnerships with several other airlines on which you can earn Aeromexico points. These airlines include:

  • Avianca
  • El Al Airlines
  • GOL Airlines
  • LATAM

The number of points that you’ll earn for partner flights depends on the specific partner that you’re flying with, the fare class you’re booked in and the distance of your flight. Each partner has its own Aeromexico points earnings chart, which you can find by visiting the partners page on the Aeromexico website and clicking on the partner that you wish to fly with. These charts can be used to calculate the number of points you’d earn on any partner-operated flight.

Other Ways To Earn

There are many other ways to earn points through the Aeromexico Rewards program, including transferring points from hotel rewards programs, booking hotel stays, riding with Uber, renting cars, buying merchandise, answering surveys and more.

Unfortunately, none of these earning methods are particularly effective and probably won’t earn you enough points for an award flight on their own. Nonetheless, if you engage in any of the aforementioned activities anyway, and Aeromexico Rewards is your frequent flyer program of choice, you may as well pick up a few extra points.

How To Book Award Flights Through Aeromexico Rewards

Now that you’re aware of the best ways to earn Aeromexico points, let’s discuss how you can redeem those points for free flights through the Aeromexico Rewards program. As mentioned above, you can redeem points for Aeromexico-operated award flights online. However, if you want to book a partner-operated award flight through this program, you’ll need to call Aeromexico customer service.

Aeromexico-Operated Award Flights

The process for booking Aeromexico-operated award flights through the Aeromexico website is fairly confusing. So, for your convenience, we’ll show you step-by-step how to do it.

The first thing you’ll need to do is visit the Aeromexico website and click the “Aeromexico Rewards” tab on the top toolbar on the homepage. You’ll then be redirected to a new page where you can see all of the different features of the Aeromexico Rewards program. To book award flights, scroll down and select the “Award Flights” option. Next, click the button that says “Learn more” that you’ll find under a section of written information about the Aeromexico Rewards program.

From there, you’ll be redirected to a page with two sections: one that’s labeled “Classic Aeromexico Rewards Ticket” and another that’s labeled “Aeromexico Rewards Ticket with a dynamic fare.” As these names imply, you can find Aeromexico-operated award flights that are priced using a dynamic pricing model and others that are priced using an award chart.

Strangely, if you click the “Get Ticket” button under the “Classic Aeromexico Rewards Flights” section, you’re directed back to the Aeromexico homepage (or that was the case as of the time of writing this article). However, if you click the “Get Ticket” button under the “Aeromexico Rewards Ticket with a dynamic fare” section, you’ll be directed to the award booking site. Fortunately, you can book both dynamic and fixed fare award flights through this site.

You can bypass some of the steps above and just enter the award booking site’s direct URL address: https://vuelaconpuntos.aeromexicorewards.com/. Unfortunately, this site doesn’t have an English language option. So, unless you can read Spanish, you may have to use the translate function of your internet browser.

Once you get to the award booking site, you’ll sign in to your Aeromexico Rewards account by clicking the “Sign in” button in the top-right corner of the screen. Then, click the “Use” tab from the top toolbar and click the “Flight” option from the drop-down menu that appears.

Finally, you’ll be directed to the page where you can search for award flights. From there, the process of searching for award flights is just like searching for cash flights. Enter your type of flight (round-trip or one-way), origin and destination, travel dates and number of travelers and click the “Look for” button to search for flights.

You’ll see a list of results that match your search query and their respective costs in Aeromexico points. You can filter for nonstop flights and sort the results by price, arrival time and departure time. You can also filter for partner-operated flights. However, after searching many routes, no results ever come up when using this filter. It seems that you still can’t book partner awards flights online through Aeromexico Rewards.

Once you identify a flight you’d like to book, choose your cabin class and click “Select.” Repeat this process for your return flight if you’re flying round-trip.

Partner-Operated Award Flights

As mentioned above, the option to book partner award flights online is currently not available through the Aeromexico website. However, it is still possible to book partner award flights with Aeromexico points over the phone.

We recommend searching for partner award availability through a different airline’s website and then writing down the date and flight number of your desired award flight before calling Aeromexico customer service.

If you want to search for a SkyTeam partner award flight, we recommend searching through the Air France, KLM or Delta website. These websites should display all available SkyTeam award flights and are very easy to navigate. If you want to find award space on a non-SkyTeam partner, you’re probably best off searching on that partner’s website.

Once you’ve found a partner award flight that suits your needs and written down the flight number and date, you can call Aeromexico customer service at 1-800-237-6639 and inform your agent that you’d like to book that flight. Then, the agent should tell you the required points for that flight as well as any applicable taxes and fees.

The Bottom Line

All in all, the Aeromexico Rewards frequent flyer program probably shouldn’t be your primary frequent flyer program. Since Aeromexico is a member of SkyTeam Alliance, you’re better off crediting your points from SkyTeam partners to a more valuable program like Flying Blue or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club instead of Aeromexico Rewards.

The main issues with Aeromexico Rewards are that many award flights are priced using a dynamic pricing model (meaning it’s hard to find high-value awards) and that partner award flights can only be booked over the phone, which is very inconvenient when it comes to finding the right award flight.

Nonetheless, the Aeromexico Rewards program is a transfer partner of several of the major credit card rewards programs and, in certain cases, may be the best transfer partner through which to purchase an award flight. For this reason, it’s important to understand how to book award flights through this program.

So, if you need help booking an award flight through Aeromexico Rewards, you can refer to the step-by-step guide in this article.
