Alaska Airlines is a Seattle-based airline that operates routes mostly along the West Coast of the United States. The airline also has one of the highest-rated frequent flyer programs in the industry year after year. The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program offers members the opportunity to earn miles by transferring credit card points from Bilt Rewards, by signing up for an Alaska Airlines co-branded credit card, by flying with Alaska Airlines and in many other ways.
And, because Alaska Airlines recently acquired Hawaiian Airlines, you can now transfer miles freely between Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles (which is a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards) and Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. So, if you have an Amex card and you want to use your Amex points through Alaska Mileage Plan, you could transfer your rewards to HawaiianMiles and then transfer those rewards to Mileage Plan. And in the near future, the two programs will combine into one loyalty program.
Unfortunately, the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program switched over to using a dynamic pricing model for its own award flights as well as partner award flights several years ago. This change resulted in a serious devaluation of the program and made it more difficult to find outsized value through Mileage Plan. Nevertheless, you can often still find solid value on partner award flights with some searching.
And, despite the fact that Alaska Mileage Plan uses dynamic pricing, there are still award charts on the Alaska Airlines website that show the minimum mileage levels required for certain routes.
It’s worth mentioning that the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program doesn’t allow you to redeem miles for cabin class upgrades either on Alaska-operated flights or partner-operated flights.
In this article, we’re going to include all of the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan award charts so you can easily reference them to determine the minimum number of Alaska miles you’ll need to pay for a specific route.

Award Charts for Flights on Alaska Airlines
Since Alaska Airlines only operates flights either to or from North America, the Mileage Plan program includes only one award chart for Alaska Airlines-operated award flights to or from the contiguous United States as well as Alaska and Canada.
So, the rates displayed in the following award chart are for Alaska Airlines flights either to or from Canada or any U.S. state except Hawaii:
Route | Economy | First |
---|---|---|
Contiguous U.S., Alaska and Canada: less than 700 miles | 5,000 | 15,000 |
Contiguous U.S., Alaska and Canada: 701–1,400 miles | 7,500 | 25,000 |
Contiguous U.S., Alaska and Canada: 1,401–2,100 miles | 12,500 | 25,000 |
Hawaii | 15,000 | 40,000 |
Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean | 10,000 | 30,000 |
The rates listed above are the minimum levels for one-way flights. If you wish to know the minimum price of a round-trip Alaska Airlines-operated award flight, you can double the rate listed in the chart above.
You can book mixed-class awards, such as an award in which one segment is in economy and another segment is in first class. However, such a mixed-class award will be priced as if it were entirely in first class.
All awards are subject to taxes and carrier-imposed fees of at least $5.60 per person each way.
Award Charts for Flights on Partner Airlines
The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program also allows you to book award flights operated by its airline partners. Since Alaska Airlines is a member of Oneworld Alliance, you can use Alaska miles to book flights with any Oneworld airline. Here is the current roster of Oneworld Alliance airlines:
Alaska Airlines | Malaysian Airlines |
American Airlines | Qantas |
British Airways | Qatar Airways |
Cathay Pacific | Royal Air Maroc |
Finnair | Royal Jordanian |
Iberia | SriLankan Airlines |
Japan Airlines |
The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program also has several partnerships outside of Oneworld Alliance. Here are all of the non-Oneworld airlines through which you can book award flights with Alaska miles:
Aer Lingus | LATAM Airlines |
Air Tahiti Nui | Oman Air |
Condor | Porter Airlines |
Hainan Airlines | Singapore Airlines |
Icelandair | STARLUX Airlines |
Korean Air |
It’s also worth mentioning that Alaska Airlines has several partner airlines with which you can earn Alaska miles but not redeem them.
Alaska Airlines publishes a series of distance-based award charts that show the minimum award rates for partner award flights in different global regions. All partner awards are subject to at least $5.60 in taxes and carrier-imposed fees per person each way.
Alaska Airlines allows one free stopover of up to 14 days per one-way flight on eligible partner international itineraries. On a round-trip international partner itinerary, it allows two free stopovers—one in each direction of travel. Mixed-class partner itineraries are permitted. However, the entire itinerary will be priced as if it were in the higher class of service.
The Alaska Airlines partner award charts display the minimum required miles for partner award flights. These charts are divided by region.

The rates above apply to non-stop flights only. If you wish to know the minimum rate for a multi-segment itinerary, you’ll need to calculate the minimum cost of each segment individually and then add them together.
Europe, Middle East and Africa
The minimum rates in the award chart below apply to award flights in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (including flights between these regions as well as flights between the U.S. and any of these regions):

10,000+ | 55,000 | 72,500 | 110,000 | 165,000 |
The rates above are for non-stop flights only. To get the minimum price of a multi-segment itinerary, you’ll need to calculate the minimum rate for each segment individually and then add them together.
Asia Pacific
The minimum rates in the award chart below apply to award flights in Asia Pacific (including flights between the U.S. and Asia Pacific as well as flights between Asia Pacific and Europe, the Middle East or Africa):
Flight distance (in miles) | Economy | Premium Economy | Business | First |
---|---|---|---|---|
Less than 1,500 | 7,500 | 10,000 | 15,000 | 22,500 |

3,501–5,000 | 30,000 | 40,000 | 60,000 | 90,000 |
5,001–7,000 | 37,500 | 50,000 | 75,000 | 110,000 |
7,001–10,000 | 42,500 | 55,000 | 85,000 | 130,000 |
10,000+ | 65,000 | 85,000 | 130,000 | 195,000 |
The minimum rates above are for non-stop segments only. If you want to know the minimum price of a multi-segment itinerary, you’ll need to calculate the minimum rate of each segment individually and then add them together.
The Bottom Line
As you can see from the charts above, the minimum award rates for some of these partner flights are fairly low, such as flights within the Americas starting at just 4,500 Alaska miles. And, while these are minimum prices and actual required mileage is typically higher than these rates, it’s not too hard to find partner awards for little more than the minimum required mileage.
So, despite the fact that Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan uses a dynamic pricing model, it’s still possible to find solid value through this program. And, since Alaska Airlines recently acquired Hawaiian Airlines, you can now freely transfer miles between Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan and Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles, giving you more redemption options and making both currencies easier to earn.
So, if you’re planning to redeem some miles for a specific award flight through the Mileage Plan program, reference the award charts we’ve produced above to help you plan your trip.
