All Nippon Airways, better known as ANA, is a Japanese airline and member of Star Alliance. The airline operates its own frequent flyer program called ANA Mileage Club. And, while many frequent flyer programs have converted to dynamic pricing models to price their award flights, the ANA Mileage Club program continues to use zone-based award charts to price its own award flights as well as award flights operated by partner airlines. ANA Mileage Club also allows members to use miles to book Star Alliance round-the-world awards, and these awards are priced using a distance-based award chart.
Unless you frequently travel to or from Japan though, you likely won’t earn many ANA miles by flying on ANA. And, if you’re a U.S. based traveler, you’re probably better off crediting any Star Alliance flight to a different frequent flyer program (such as Air Canada Aeroplan or United Airlines MileagePlus) instead of the ANA Mileage Plan. The best way for most U.S. travelers to earn miles is to transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards, the only major credit card rewards program that has ANA Mileage Plan as a transfer partner.
So, if you have an Amex card and you’re interested in making a points transfer to ANA Mileage Club, or you’ve earned some ANA miles through other means, it’s good to be familiar with the ANA Mileage Club award charts. These charts can help you find sweet spots that offer outsized value so you can get the maximum benefit out of your miles.
In this article, we’ll include all of the ANA Mileage Club award charts, including the charts for ANA-operated award flights, partner-operated award flights, ANA upgrade awards, Star Alliance upgrade awards and Star Alliance round-the-world awards.

*Zone 1-A includes itineraries that only contain an international round-trip (two sectors) and itineraries that only contain an international round-trip and connecting flights within Japan. All other flights to or from Japan are categorized as Zone 1-B.

The following award charts are organized by their zone of departure. Mileage rates for these award charts are shown for round-trip travel. If you wish to know the price of a one-way flight on any of the following routes, you can simply divide the listed rates in half.

ANA Mileage Club Award Charts for Star Alliance Round-the-World Awards
In addition to booking partner award flights, the ANA Mileage Plan program also allows you to use miles to book Star Alliance round-the-world awards, which can incorporate up to eight stopovers between the departure point and the return point. Additionally, the following rules apply to round Star Alliance round-the-world itineraries:
- All sectors must be operated by Star Alliance member airlines.
- Flights must be used to cross both the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.
- The flight direction must be east-to-west or west-to-east. Backtracking is not permitted.
- Up to eight stopovers are permitted within the entire itinerary. Up to three stopovers are permitted within Europe and up to four stopovers are permitted within Japan.
- The departure date of the final international flight to return to the country of departure must be at least 10 days after the departure of the first international flight on the itinerary.
- The itinerary may include a maximum of 12 flight sectors and may also include a maximum of four ground transport sectors (including travel between different airports in the same city).
Star Alliance round-the-world awards are priced using a distance-based award chart. The total itinerary mileage is calculated by adding up the basic sector mileage from each sector of the trip.
As an example, here’s a possible itinerary that you could book as a Star Alliance round-the-world award:
- New York City (JFK) to Lisbon, Portugal (LIS) on TAP Air Portugal
- Lisbon, Portugal (LIS) to Munich, Germany (MUC) on Lufthansa
- Munich, Germany (MUC) to Singapore (SIN) on Lufthansa
- Singapore (SIN) to Tokyo (NRT) on Singapore Airlines
- Tokyo (NRT) to Los Angeles (LAX) on ANA
- Los Angeles (LAX) to New York City (JFK) on United Airlines
To calculate the total mileage for this itinerary, you would have to calculate the mileage for each individual sector in the trip and then total all of those sector mileages (which is easy to do using the Great Circle Mapper online tool).

Then, once you have the total mileage of your trip (which would be 22,102 miles in the case of the example above), you can refer to the award chart below to see how many miles a Star Alliance round-the-world award would cost you in each cabin class.
Total itinerary mileage | Economy Class | Business Class | First Class |

ANA Mileage Club Award Charts for Upgrade Awards on ANA International Flights
Miles can also be used to book cabin class upgrades on ANA-operated international flights through the ANA Mileage Club program (but not ANA-operated domestic flights). ANA international upgrade awards are priced according to a single distance-based award chart, which applies to single sector flights. Here’s the award chart for ANA upgrade awards:
1-sector mileage | Economy to Premium Econ | Economy/Premium Econ to Business | Business to First |
---|---|---|---|
0–2,000 | 9,000 | 12,000 | 20,000 |

The Bottom Line
All in all, if you have an American Express Membership Rewards credit card, then it’s definitely worth familiarizing yourself with the ANA Mileage Club program and its award charts (since Amex Membership Rewards is the only major credit card rewards program that allows transfers to ANA Mileage Club). This program still uses zone-based and distance-based award charts to price its flight awards, upgrade awards and for round-the-world awards, which means you can still find plenty of outsized-value redemptions.
And, while these award charts are fairly complicated and can be difficult to navigate, you can definitely find some excellent sweet spots on particular routes operated by both ANA and its airline partners. On top of that, ANA Mileage Club is one of the best programs out there through which to purchase a Star Alliance round-the-world award.
So, whether you’re earning ANA points through transfers, by crediting flights on Star Alliance or through another method, familiarizing yourself with these ANA Mileage Club award charts can help you get the maximum value out of your miles.
