If you’ve ever traveled in Latin America, you may be familiar with Copa Airlines, the flag carrier of Panama. This airline, which has its hub in Panama City, operates many routes connecting North America with Central and South America. Copa Airlines has its own frequent flyer program called ConnectMiles that allows members to rack up miles by flying on Copa Airlines, flying with its airline partners and in a variety of other ways.

These reward miles can then be redeemed for award flights operated by Copa Airlines or one of its airline partners (including any member of Star Alliance) and in other ways, such as purchasing upgrades or donating miles to charity. However, if you want to maximize the value that you get out of your Copa miles, you’ll want to stick to redeeming them for flights.

Since the ConnectMiles program uses a series of fixed, zone-based award charts to price its own award flights as well as partner award flights, it’s possible to find redemptions that offer much more than 1 cent per mile in value. So, if you want to maximize the value of your Copa miles, it helps to be familiar with this program’s award charts.

For your convenience, we’ll include all of the award charts used by the Copa Airlines ConnectMiles program in this article.

All award flights and upgrade awards through the Copa Airlines ConnectMiles program are priced according to region-based award charts. The following chart defines which geographic areas are included in each region:

ConnectMiles Award Charts for Flight Awards With Copa Airlines

Of course, ConnectMiles members can redeem miles for award flights on Copa Airlines. There are two types of Copa Airlines-operated award flights available: Saver and Standard. Saver awards require fewer miles but have far less availability than Standard awards. Standard awards require more miles but have much greater availability than Saver awards.

All Copa Airlines award flights are priced according to region-based award charts. These award charts are divided by cabin class and by type of award. Below, you’ll find one Saver award chart and one Standard award chart for economy-class Copa Airlines awards and one Saver award chart and one Standard award chart for business-class Copa Airlines awards.

In this section, we’ll include an award chart for Saver economy awards and another award chart for Standard economy awards.

ConnectMiles Award Charts for Flight Awards With Wingo

You can also use miles to purchase award flights operated by Wingo (formerly known as Copa Airlines Colombia), a low-cost subsidiary of Copa Airlines. However, unlike when redeeming miles for Copa Airlines flights, you can’t directly purchase flights on Wingo with miles. Instead, you can redeem award miles for vouchers that have a cash value and can be used to purchase Wingo flights.

The following chart includes the rates for these Wingo flight vouchers:

Award miles requiredVoucher value in Colombian Pesos
5,000100,000 (about $24 at the current conversion rate)
10,000260,000 (about $63 at the current conversion rate)
15,000460,000 (about $112 at the current conversion rate)

Once you redeem miles for a Wingo flight voucher, it typically takes between 1 and 3 business days for the voucher to be delivered (via email). These vouchers are valid for one year from the date of issuance. Wingo vouchers can be used to cover flight fare as well as any applicable taxes or additional charges.

ConnectMiles Award Charts for Upgrade Awards With Copa Airlines and Wingo

ConnectMiles members can use award miles to purchase upgrades on paid flights operated by Copa Airlines or Wingo. However, the prices of these upgrade awards depend on the specific flight that you’re trying to upgrade and are not priced using award charts.

The only way to find out the price of an upgrade award on a Copa Airlines or Wingo flight is to contact the Copa Airlines Service Center.

ConnectMiles Award Charts for Upgrade Awards With Star Alliance

The ConnectMiles program also allows members to purchase cabin-class upgrades on certain Star Alliance flights with award miles. Upgrades on Copa Airlines non-Star Alliance partners (Azul, GOL, Emirates and KLM) are not available to purchase with award miles. In order to book a Star Alliance upgrade award, you must already have an eligible paid ticket for a Star Alliance flight.

The following table includes which fare classes on each Star Alliance airline are eligible for each kind of upgrade award:

The Bottom Line

Because the Copa Airlines ConnectMiles program still uses fixed region-based award charts to price award flights (including award flights operated by Copa Airlines, Star Alliance airlines and other partner airlines), it’s possible to find outsized-value redemption through this program offering more than 1 cent per mile in many cases.

Unfortunately, the ConnectMiles program isn’t a transfer partner of any of the major transferable credit card rewards programs (such as American Express Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards), which means that earning miles with the ConnectMiles program is fairly difficult. If you want to save up for a reward flight through the ConnectMiles program, the best way to do so is to fly with Copa Airlines or credit flights on Star Alliance airlines to your ConnectMiles account.

However, if you’re flying with a Star Alliance airline, you may be better off crediting your flight to another program such as Air Canada Aeroplan, Avianca LifeMiles or Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. These programs tend to offer better value than the Copa Airlines ConnectMiles program.

Nonetheless, if you’re loyal to the ConnectMiles program, it helps to be familiar with the award charts produced above so that you can quickly identify high-value redemptions.
