Finnair Plus, the frequent flyer program of Finland’s flag carrier Finnair, recently switched to using the Avios rewards currency. This currency is shared by several other airlines that are part of International Airlines Group (IAG), including Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Qatar Airways and Vueling. Avios can be transferred freely between any of these programs. However, when transferring between certain loyalty programs, you may have to use the British Airways Executive Club program as an intermediary. Luckily, we have an entire article about how to transfer and combine Avios between programs.
Since Finnair Plus adopted the Avios currency in March 2024, the program has replaced its old award charts with updated award charts to reflect the prices of award flights in the new Avios currency. Finnair Plus allows members to redeem Avios for flights in Finnair Plus, any other Oneworld Alliance airline and several non-Oneworld partner airlines.
For each airline on which you can redeem Avios for award flights through the Finnair Plus program, there is a published award chart. The only exceptions are British Airways and BRA. The Avios charges for award flights for British Airways follow British Airways’ own pricing, which you can find through the British Airways Executive Club website. There is also no award chart published for Swedish airline BRA and little information on the Finnair website about how BRA award flights are priced (though it is possible to book BRA award flights with Avios through the Finnair Plus program).
You can use Finnair Plus Avios to upgrade your cabin class on scheduled Finnair flights, and there is a zone-based award chart that’s used to price these upgrade awards.
In this article, we’re going to include all of the Finnair Plus award charts so that you can easily find the price of an award flight or upgrade through the Finnair Plus program and possibly identify sweet spots that offer great value for your Avios.
Finnair Plus Award Chart for Flights on Finnair
Of course, Avios can be redeemed for scheduled Finnair flights (which have flight numbers marked with an AY code) operated by Finnair or Norra (a subsidiary airline of Finnair). You can choose to purchase flights with a combination of cash and Avios or you can pay entirely with Avios, which is known as a Classic award. All Classic awards include one checked bag (maximum of 23 kilograms) and a seat reservation for a standard seat.
On certain Finnair-operated routes, you will have to pay an additional surcharge on top of the Avios you redeem. It’s worth noting that if you book a Classic award chart through Finnair customer service, you’ll have to pay an additional 500 Avios for one-way bookings and an additional 1,000 Avios for return bookings.
If you want to avoid paying these extra Avios, you can book Finnair award flights online by choosing “Award flights” from the booking engine on the homepage of the Finnair website. Then, you’ll need to log in to your Finnair Plus account. Finally, select your origin, destination, trip type and dates and proceed with your booking.
One free stopover is permitted on Finnair round-trip long-haul award flight itineraries.
If you want to quickly know the price of a Finnair-operated award flight, you can reference the zone-based Finnair award chart:
Zone | Economy Class | Premium Economy | Business Class |
---|---|---|---|
Finland and Northern Europe* | 6,500 | N/A | 10,000 |
Central Europe** | 12,000 | N/A | 18,000 |
Western and Southern Europe*** | 13,000 | N/A | 20,000 |
Canary Islands, Madeira, Eilat and Tel Aviv | 15,000 | N/A | 25,000 |

Most of Asia and North America**** | 30,000 | 43,500 | 62,500 |
Japan, Singapore and Los Angeles | 30,000 | 43,500 | 62,500 |
*Includes Bodø, Copenhagen, Gdansk, Gothenburg, Oslo, Riga, Stockholm, Tallinn, Trondheim, Vilnius, Visby, Warsaw and all flights within Finland
**Includes Amsterdam, Bergen, Berlin, Billund, Brussels, Budapest, Düsseldorf, Edinburg, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Innsbruck, Krakow, Ljubljana, London, Manchester, Munich, Prague, Salzburg, Tromsø, Wroclaw, Zagreb, Zurich and Vienna
***Includes Alanya, Alicante, Antalya, Barcelona, Bologna, Chania, Dublin, Dubrovnik, Faro, Geneva, Heraklion, Larnaca, Lisbon, Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Milan, Naples, Nice, Paris, Reykjavik, Rhodes, Rome, Santorini, Split, Venice and Verona
****Includes Bangkok, Chicago, Dallas, Guangzhou, Hongkong, Phuket, Miami, New York, Seattle, Seoul and Shanghai
The prices listed in the award chart above are for one-way travel. If you want to know the price of a round-trip award flight on Finnair, you can simply double the value listed above. It’s important to note that, for connecting flights, Avios will be charged separately (except for flights within Finland and Northern Europe).
For instance, if you were to book a one-way Finnair-operated flight from Helsinki to London in economy class, it would cost 12,000 Avios (because London is included in the “Central Europe” zone). If you were to fly round-trip on this same route in economy class, it would cost you 24,000 Avios.
However, if you were to fly one-way from London to Singapore with a layover in Helsinki in economy class, you would be charged 12,000 Avios for a one-way flight between London and Helsinki and 30,000 Avios for a one-way flight between Helsinki and Singapore, which brings the total cost of the one-way itinerary to 42,000 Avios.
The Finnair Plus website includes a chart with applicable surcharges for each Finnair award flight. Here are the surcharges you’ll have to pay on Finnair-operated Classic awards, depending on the route you’re flying:
Zone | Economy Class | Premium Economy | Business Class |
---|---|---|---|
Finland and Northern Europe | €10 | N/A | €10 |
Central Europe | €15 | N/A | €15 |
Western and Southern Europe | €15 | N/A | €15 |
Canary Islands, Madeira, Eilat and Tel Aviv | €30 | N/A | €30 |
Doha, Dubai and India | €30 | €35 | €60 |
Most of Asia and North America | €45 | €65 | €100 |
Japan, Singapore and Los Angeles | €45 | €65 | €120 |
The prices listed in the chart above are for one-way travel. If you want to know the applicable surcharges for a round-trip award flight, you can double the price listed above.

Finnair Plus Award Charts for Flights on Partner Airlines
The Finnair Plus program allows members to redeem Avios for award flights operated by all Oneworld Alliance airlines and certain non-Oneworld partners. Each partner that accepts Avios for flights through the Finnair Plus program has its own award chart (with the exceptions of British Airways, which is priced according to British Airways Executive Club pricing, and BRA).
Partner award flights can be combined with Finnair award flights on a single itinerary. However, it isn’t possible to combine two or more partner airlines on the same itinerary.
One free stopover is permitted on partner round-trip intercontinental award flight itineraries.
On top of the Avios charged for a partner award flight, partners may be required to pay additional passenger fees, taxes and surcharges, depending on the airline.
In the following sections, we’ll list the award charts for every partner airline on which you can purchase award flights through the Finnair Plus program.

Finnair Plus Award Chart for Flight Upgrades on Finnair
The Finnair Plus program allows members to redeem Avios for cabin class upgrades on Finnair-operated flights (AY code on the ticket and the flight is operated by Finnair or Norra). To request an upgrade (whether with Avios or cash), your original flight ticket must be issued first.
Finnair prices upgrade on its own flights according to a one-way award flight. If you choose to book an upgrade through Finnair Plus customer service, you’ll be charged an additional 1,000 Avios per direction. So, booking a round-trip upgrade award will cost an additional 2,000 Avios. Upgrades from premium economy to business class can currently only be requested through customer service, but you won’t be charged any additional Avios for booking these kinds of upgrade awards through customer service.
Here’s the award chart for upgrades on Finnair-operated flights:
Zone (one-way) | From Economy to Premium Economy | From Premium Economy to Business | From Economy to Business |
---|---|---|---|
Finland and Northern Europe* | N/A | N/A | 6,500 |

To upgrade your cabin class on a Finnair flight without paying a fee, you can use Finnair’s online upgrade service and enter your booking reference number and last name. Then, you can see if your booking is eligible for an upgrade and, if so, choose to pay for your upgrade with Avios.
The Bottom Line
Since Finnair Plus recently converted to the Avios rewards currency, the program has adopted all new award charts. Finnair now publishes an award chart for its own award flights, partner award flights and upgrade awards on Finnair-operated flights. If you have a balance of Avios in Finnair Plus or any other Avios-using program, it’s worth getting familiar with these award charts to see if any sweet spots might work to your advantage.
Avios can be transferred freely between any of the Avios-using programs, which currently include Aer Lingus AerClub, British Airways Executive Club, Finnair Plus, Iberia Plus, Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Vueling Club. So, if you find a sweet spot in one of these Finnair Plus award charts and have Avios in another account, you can easily transfer those Avios to Finnair Plus and take advantage of that sweet spot.
