So, as you can see, there are many different airlines with which you can earn Miles & More miles when flying around Europe. And, on top of that, the Miles & More program is partnered with Star Alliance, meaning you can also earn miles by flying with any Star Alliance airline.

When it comes to redeeming Miles & More miles, you can often find great value since many award flights are priced according to a single region-based award chart. So, if you’re able to find award flights that have relatively high cash prices, you should be able to get outsized value for your Miles & More miles.

However, it’s worth noting that the Miles & More program began using a dynamic pricing model for award flights operated by Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City and Swiss International Air Lines as of June 2025. This means that the award rates for these flights will closely follow cash prices and that you probably won’t be able to find outsized value on these awards.

In this article, we’re going to walk you through the actual process of booking award flights through the Miles & More program website. So, once you save up enough miles for your next award flight, you’ll have no trouble making your booking.

How to Earn Miles & More Miles

Before you can purchase an award flight through the Miles & More program, you’ll need to earn some miles. You can’t even search for award flights through the Miles & More website unless you have at least 7,000 miles in your account. So, before we get to the process of booking an award flight, let’s look at how to quickly earn Miles & More miles.

There are many ways to earn miles through this program. However, some are considerably more effective than others. So, in the following sections, we’ll take a brief look at some of the best ways to earn Miles & More miles.

Spending on the Miles & More® World Elite Mastercard®

If you’re an avid user of the Miles & More frequent flyer program, then the best way to quickly earn miles with this program is by signing up for the Miles & More® World Elite Mastercard® (issued by Barclays). This card charges an $89 annual fee, which is relatively low. And you can easily offset this annual fee by taking advantage of the welcome bonus, spending bonuses and other benefits offered by this card.

In addition to the benefits listed in the chart above, the Miles & More® World Elite Mastercard® also offers a welcome bonus of tens of thousands of miles to new cardmembers who spend a certain amount of money on their card in the first three months after account opening. This is perhaps the best way to rack up a large number of Miles & More miles quickly.

Plus, as you can see, any time you take a flight on a Miles & More airline, you’ll earn 2X miles per $1 spent. And every other purchase you make will earn 1X miles, which means you can earn Miles & More miles at the grocery store, at the gas pump and anywhere else you use your card.

Unfortunately, the Miles & More program doesn’t allow transfers from any of the major U.S. credit card rewards programs (such as Capital One Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards). So, if you’re a U.S. resident and you want to earn Miles & More miles through credit card spending, the only way to do so is with the Miles & More® World Elite Mastercard®.

Flying with Miles & More Airlines and Star Alliance Airlines

Of course, you can also earn miles with the Miles & More program by taking flights with Miles & More airlines. Plus, since Lufthansa and several other Miles & More airlines are members of Star Alliance, you can also earn miles on flights with any Star Alliance airline. To earn miles on any eligible flight, you’ll need to choose Miles & More as your frequent flyer program of choice either when making your booking or when checking in.

All eligible airlines earn miles according to the same rules. In almost every case, you’ll earn 4X base miles per euro spent. So, if you were to take a flight that cost 400 euros, you would earn 1,600 miles (400 euros x 4 = 1,600 miles)

If you have any elite status with the Miles & More program, you’ll earn an additional 25% bonus miles on flights with Miles & More airlines (but not with Star Alliance partner airlines). So, if the flight from the previous example were with ITA Airways, which is a Miles & More airline, and you had Senator elite status, then you’d earn an additional 400 miles (1,600 x 25% = 400 miles) for a total earnings of 2,000 miles (1,600 base miles + 400 bonus miles = 2,000 miles).

As mentioned before, in most cases, eligible flights will earn miles according to the rules stated in the paragraphs above. But, in the case that you make your reservation through the booking channel of another airline or a travel agency or online travel agency and the first three digits of your ticket number are not 220 (Lufthansa), 724 (SWISS), 257 (Austrian Airlines), 082 (Brussels Airlines) or 101 (Air Dolomiti), and your flight is not operated by Eurowings, then the miles you earn will be fixed or be based on the flight distance and booking class.

Then, you’ll need to scroll down and click on the “Earn” box to view that airline’s earning rules.

Booking Hotel Stays Through Hotels & Cars by Rocket Travel by Agoda

Another decent way to earn miles with the Miles & More program is to book hotel stays through the Hotels & Cars by Rocket Travel by Agoda portal. It’s unclear how the Hotels & Cars portal calculates how many miles you’ll earn per stay. However, in many cases, you can earn a ton of miles for stays at certain hotels.

For example, we searched for a seven-day stay in New York City in May 2025. If you were to book the Hyatt Grand Central New York, it would cost you 349 euros per night (or 2,443 euros for the entire stay). And you would earn 32,400 miles for booking this stay through the Hotels & Cars portal.

This is an excellent earnings rate, especially for a hotel stay. Effectively, you’d be earning over 13X miles per euro spent on this stay, which is much better than most other hotel booking portals. And, as you can see in the screenshot above, while the mileage earnings at the other hotel options aren’t quite as impressive as the Hyatt Grand Central New York, they’re still pretty good.

Other Ways to Earn

There are several other ways to earn miles through the Miles & More program. Unfortunately, none of these other earning methods are as effective as the methods listed above. However, if you use Miles & More as your primary frequent flyer program, you may want to familiarize yourself with these other ways to earn miles.

Miles & More members can earn miles by booking hotel stays with certain partners (outside of the Hotels & Cars portal), renting cars either through the Hotels & Cars portal or with individual partners (such as Avis and Hertz), shopping duty-free at the airport, shopping at outlet stores from The Bicester Collection and booking travel experiences through certain partners.

While these other earning methods may not earn a ton of miles on their own, they can help you inch a little closer to your next award flight redemption.

How to Book Award Flights Through Miles & More

Now that you’re familiar with how to earn miles with the Miles & More program, let’s look at the process of redeeming miles for award flights. It’s worth noting that there are many ways to redeem miles through this frequent flyer program, but booking award flights is typically the best way to maximize the value of your miles.

To begin the process of booking an award flight, you’ll need to visit the Miles & More website and sign in to your account by clicking the “Login” button in the top-right corner of the homepage. Then, you’ll need to enter your account username (or account number) as well as your password.

Once you’ve signed in, you can click on the “Spend” option from the menu at the top of the homepage. After that, a new menu will appear at the top of the screen with the different ways that you can spend your miles. You should select the “Flights” option from this menu.

On the next page, you’ll find the award flight booking portal, where you can enter the details for your desired award flight, including your departure airport, arrival airport, travel date, number of passengers and desired travel class.

When you’ve entered your information correctly, you can click the “Search” button, and you’ll be brought to a page of flight results that match your search query (which will include flights from any eligible Miles & More airlines or Star Alliance airlines).

On this page, you’ll be able to see important information about each available flight, including departure and arrival times, flight duration, operating airline, number of stops and more. You’ll also be able to see the required mileage for any available cabin class.

You can also choose to sort thes flight results by a number of factors, including recommended, departure time, arrival time and more.

Once you find a flight that fits your needs, you can simply click on the cabin class that you want to book on that flight to add it to your itinerary. You can repeat this process for your return flight if you’re flying round-trip.

After you’ve selected your flights, you’ll need to enter passenger information for anyone traveling on your itinerary, such as their name, date of birth, email, phone number and more. Finally, you’ll need to enter payment information to cover any applicable taxes and fees for your flights.

You can then confirm your booking and you should receive a confirmation number, which you’ll need to check in for your flight. You should also receive a confirmation email with this number.

Once you’ve completed your booking, the required mileage will be immediately deducted from your account balance. If you wish to cancel your award flight booking, these miles will be credited back to your account (unless you booked a reduced flight award, in which cases miles cannot be refunded). However, in most cases, you’ll incur a charge of 50 euros for canceling your award flight.

The Bottom Line

The Miles & More frequent flyer program is used as the rewards program of many different European airlines, including all of the airlines owned by the Lufthansa Group as well as Air Dolomiti, Croatia Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines and Luxair. Additionally, the Miles & More program is partnered with Star Alliance, meaning you can both earn and redeem Miles & More miles on any Star Alliance airline. Thus, you can earn miles with this program when taking flights almost anywhere in the world.

This program also offers a co-branded credit card to U.S. consumers known as the Miles & More® World Elite Mastercard®, which allows you to earn miles on every purchase you make. Unfortunately, the one major drawback of this program is that it doesn’t allow transfers from major U.S. credit card rewards programs (such as American Express Membership Rewards or Citi ThankYou Rewards). This makes it harder to earn miles with this program relative to other frequent flyer programs that allow such transfers.
