ANA Mileage Club Award Booking Instructions

All Nippon Airways, better known as ANA, is a Japanese airline and a member of Star Alliance. This airline operates routes mostly throughout Asia but also serves a significant number of destinations in Europe and North America. Through its network of airline partners, you can book flights to nearly anywhere in the world through the ANA website.

ANA operates its own frequent flyer program called ANA Mileage Club, which has long been a favorite program among travel enthusiasts due to its long list of airline partners, favorable rates for award flights and Star Alliance round-the-world awards. Plus, the ANA Mileage program is a transfer partner of the American Express Membership Rewards program, meaning you can transfer points from your Amex credit card account to ANA, which can then be redeemed for award flights.

Navigating the ANA Mileage Club program can be a bit confusing. So, in this article, we’re going to include step-by-step instructions on how to book an award flight through the ANA Mileage Club program as well as how to join the program and earn miles.

Joining ANA Mileage Club

Before you can book an award flight through the ANA Mileage Club program, you’ll first need to become a member. You can enroll in the program by visiting the ANA website and clicking the blue “Join” button in the top-right corner of the homepage.

Once you click that button, you‘ll be redirected to a new page where you’ll see a list of links that lead to pages explaining different aspects of the ANA Mileage Club program. To join the program, you’ll click the red “Join ANA Mileage Club” button near the top of the page.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll arrive at a new page, where you’ll input your name, gender, date of birth, address, phone number and email address. You’ll also be asked to create a password for your ANA Mileage Club account and agree to the terms and conditions. Once you’ve done that, click the “Go to Registration Details Confirmation Screen” button at the bottom of the page.

You’ll then be asked to confirm your account details. Once you‘ve confirmed, you’ll receive your unique ANA membership number, which you can use to sign in to your account in the future and to earn ANA miles. You’ll also receive access to a digital membership card, which you can access through the ANA Mileage Club app.

How To Earn ANA Mileage Club Miles

As an ANA Mileage Club member, you’re eligible to earn and redeem ANA miles. However, before you purchase an award flight, you‘ll have to have enough points in your account balance. The minimum rate for an award flight through the ANA Mileage Club program is 6,000 miles (which is enough for a one-way, ANA-operated award flight on certain domestic Japanese routes). So, if you want to purchase an award flight through this program, you’ll need to earn at least that many miles.

There are many ways to earn miles through ANA Mileage Club. However, some earning methods are far more effective than others. In the following sections, we’re going to briefly look at a few of the most effective ways to earn ANA miles.

Transfer American Express Membership Rewards Points

One of the best ways to earn ANA miles is to transfer points from the American Express Membership Rewards program. Unfortunately, this is the only major credit card rewards program that allows transfers to the ANA Mileage Club program.

Amex Membership Rewards transfer to the ANA Mileage Club program at a 1:1 ratio, so if you had 100,000 Amex points, you could have 100,000 ANA miles in your account. Note that transfers can take a couple days.

However, you should be aware that American Express charges a fee of $0.0006 per point transferred to frequent flyer programs (with a maximum fee of $99). So, if you were to transfer 100,000 Amex points to the ANA Mileage Club program, you’d have to pay a fee of $60, which is fairly significant.

Nonetheless, if you want to make a redemption through ANA Mileage Club without having to commit to this program as your primary frequent flyer program, transferring Amex points is probably the best way to do so.

Flying With ANA and Partner Airlines

Another effective way to earn ANA miles is to credit paid flights on ANA and its airline partners to ANA Mileage Club. To do so, you’ll need to select ANA Mileage Club as your frequent flyer program of choice and enter your membership number, either when making your flight booking or when checking in for your flight.

When flying on ANA, the number of miles you’ll earn depends on the actual distance of your flight, your booking class, whether you’re flying domestic or international and your status in the ANA Mileage Club program. You can calculate the number of miles you’ll earn manually by referencing the earning charts on ANA’s website and multiplying the distance of your flight by the percentage associated with your booking class. However, it’s much easier to use the mileage calculator tool.

With this tool, you can enter your flight route, booking class and membership status and it will calculate how many miles you’ll earn on that flight.

In addition to earning miles on ANA-operated flights, you can earn ANA miles on paid flights with eligible partner airlines. As mentioned above, ANA is a member of Star Alliance, which means you can earn ANA miles by booking paid flights with any Star Alliance airlines. Here’s the current roster of Star Alliance airlines:

In addition to the Star Alliance partners listed above, Mileage Club members can earn ANA miles by taking paid flights with several non-Star Alliance partners. These partners include the following:

Mileage earnings on flights with any of the partners listed above are determined using each partner’s earnings chart, which you can find on the partner airlines page of the ANA website. Once you’re on this page, click on the icon for the partner that you wish to fly with to view that partner’s earnings chart. Then, multiply the distance of your flight (in miles) by the percentage associated with the booking class you’re flying in to calculate your potential mileage earnings.

Other Ways To Earn

There are many other ways to earn miles through the ANA Mileage Club program, including booking hotels, renting cars, shopping duty free on ANA flights, sending packages, going to the spa and more.

Unfortunately, none of these earning methods are particularly effective for U.S.-based travelers. So, if you have your sights set on an award flight redemption through the ANA Mileage Club program, you’re best off transferring Amex points or taking paid flights with ANA or one of its partners.

However, if you happen to use ANA Mileage Club often, it may be worth looking into these other earning methods so you can earn some extra miles here and there.

How To Book Award Flights Through ANA Mileage Club

Now that you know how to enroll in ANA Mileage Club and how to earn enough ANA miles for an award flight redemption, let’s discuss the actual process of making an award flight booking. The first thing you’ll need to do is sign in to your ANA Mileage Club account by clicking the “Login” button in the top-right corner of the homepage and entering your account credentials.

From there, you’ll be returned to the homepage, where you’ll see the flight search tool box. Inside this box, you’ll need to click the tab that says “Flight Awards” in order to search for flights that can be booked with miles instead of cash.

Once you click the “Flight Awards” tab, you’ll see four different links appear. You’ll want to click the “Award Reservation” link in order to get to the award flight booking tool.

From there, the process of searching for an award flight is similar to searching for a cash flight. First, you choose whether you want to book a round-trip or multi-city flight by clicking the corresponding tab. One-way award flights haven’t been available through the ANA Mileage Club program, but that will change starting June 24, 2025. Then, enter your departure airport, arrival airport, travel dates, number of passengers and preferred cabin class.

There’s also a checkbox that says “Compare seat availability +/- 3 days” below where you select your travel dates. If you check this box, you’ll be shown available flights that match your search query three days before and after the date you select. This can be very helpful if your travel dates are flexible and you want to find the cheapest award flight possible.

Once all of that information is correct, click the red “Search” button to conduct your award flight search.

You’ll be shown a list of flight results that match your search query, including flights operated by ANA as well as its airline partners. Near the top of the results, you’ll need to choose whether you want to see results from ANA, Star Alliance partners or other partners by clicking a bubble. This will automatically filter the results for that type of award.

Unfortunately, you can’t mix types of awards in your itinerary. For instance, if you choose an ANA award flight for your departing flight, you can’t choose a Star Alliance award (or an award from a non-Star Alliance partner) for your return flight.

You can also sort your flight results by recommended, departure time, arrival time and flight duration. Next to each flight listing, you’ll see important information about that flight, including departure and arrival airport, flight duration, operating airline and departure terminal. Once you see a flight that suits your needs, you can add that flight to your itinerary by clicking the bubble next to it.

When you’ve selected both a departure and a return flight, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the red “Next” button to proceed to a new page, where you’ll be able to see both of the flights you’ve selected as well as the total required mileage, the total taxes and fees and your current ANA miles balance.

If that all looks good, proceed to the next page, where you’ll be asked to provide some personal information about any travelers on the itinerary, including name, date of birth, gender, phone number and email address.

After that, you’ll need to provide a payment method to cover any applicable taxes and fees for your itinerary. Once you’ve added your payment method, you can confirm your flight booking and receive your confirmation number, which you’ll need to check in to your flight. You’ll also receive this number in a confirmation email to any email addresses provided in the passenger information section.

Once you confirm your booking, the required ANA miles will be immediately deducted from your account. If you decide to cancel your award flight booking prior to the departure date, you can receive a refund. However, you will be charged a refund fee of 3,000 ANA miles. Your taxes and fees will be refunded in full.

The Bottom Line

The ANA Mileage Club program is a solid frequent flyer program, as it offers good award flight rates and a long list of partners that you can both earn and redeem miles with. Unfortunately, unless you have an American Express credit card, the only effective way to earn points is to credit paid flights on ANA and its partners to the Mileage Club program. And, for many U.S.-based travelers, those miles might be better credited to other programs, such as Air Canada Aeroplan, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer or United MileagePlus.

And, if you are going to transfer points from the American Express Membership Rewards program to ANA Mileage Club program, you should be aware that Amex charges a cash fee for these transfers, which will immediately eat into the value that you get out of those points.

Nonetheless, there are definitely times when Amex cardmembers may want to transfer their points to the ANA Mileage Club program for a specific award flight redemption.
