Best Business Credit Cards for Airport Lounge Access

Let’s now look at the best credit cards for business owners wanting complimentary airport lounge access.

The Business Platinum Card® from American Express

The Business Platinum Card® from American Express remains the best business card for airport lounge access. While its $895 annual fee (see rates and fees) is the highest of any business credit card on the market, its numerous perks make it easy to offset.

As a cardholder, you’ll enjoy access to The American Express Global Lounge Collection®, which includes the following lounge networks:

  • The Centurion® Lounge
  • Delta Sky Club®
  • Escape Lounges
  • Lufthansa Lounges
  • Plaza Premium
  • Priority Pass™ Select
  • Additional Global Lounge Collection partner lounges

This is the widest selection of lounges offered by any business card on the market. What’s even better is that employee cards—which come with an additional annual fee of $400 per card—also come with access to The American Express Global Lounge Collection (this excludes $0 annual fee employee expense cards).

The Amex Business Platinum not only gives you access to American Express Centurion lounges, but also to a number of other independent and airline lounge networks.

Plaza Premium and Escape lounges are two independent networks that typically allow Amex Business Platinum cardholders to bring up to two guests with them for free, regardless of the airline you’re flying.

However, in some cases you need to fly with a specific airline to access the lounge. For instance, you need to have a same-day ticket with Delta Air Lines to access Delta Sky Clubs and a same-day ticket with a Lufthansa Group airline to access Lufthansa Business lounges.

However, you can access other airline lounges that are part of the Priority Pass network, such as those belonging to Air France and Turkish Airlines, without needing to fly with the respective airline.

Priority Pass Select also includes limited access to the Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club, giving Amex Business Platinum cardholders one complimentary visit per calendar year (excluding the Sapphire Lounge in Hong Kong), with a preferential rate of $75 per additional visit thereafter.

In the case of Delta Sky Clubs, you’ll receive 10 complimentary visits per calendar year, which you can upgrade to an unlimited number of visits by charging $75,000 to your card within a calendar year.

In addition to the Amex Business Platinum’s renowned lounge access privileges, here’s an overview of its other key benefits:

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card

If you fly frequently for business with Delta Air Lines, the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card can unlock a number of airport lounges during your trips, for an annual fee of $650 (see rates and fees).

As a primary or additional cardholder, you’ll enjoy 15 complimentary visits to Delta Sky Clubs per Medallion Year when flying with Delta.

Delta defines a “visit” as an entry to one or more Delta Sky Clubs, or usage of the Delta Sky Club “Grab and Go” feature, at one or more airports for a period of up to 24 hours starting upon the first Delta Sky Club entry or Grab and Go usage. That means you can visit multiple Delta Sky Clubs during flights with a connection while only using up one of your visits.

You also can unlock an unlimited number of visits by charging $75,000 to your card within a calendar year.

The card also offers four one-time guest passes that you can use to bring guests with you into Delta Sky Clubs, provided that they’re also flying with Delta.

Delta Sky Clubs aren’t the only lounges you’ll have access to when flying with Delta. If you pay for your flight using a U.S.-issued American Express card, such as your Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business Card, you’ll enjoy complimentary access to The Centurion Lounge and Escape Lounges.

You can bring up to two guests with you into Centurion Lounges at a per-visit rate of $50 (or $30 for children aged 2 through 17) per person. You also can bring guests into Escape Lounges, subject to the standard guest entry fee at the given lounge location.

Here are some of the card’s additional features beyond lounge perks that you can take advantage of:

          • 3X miles on direct purchases with Delta
          • 1.5X miles on eligible transit, U.S. shipping and U.S. office supply store purchases. If you charge $150,000 in purchases to your card within a calendar year, you’ll earn 1.5X miles on all other eligible purchases.

          Final Thoughts

Whether you’re looking to get lounge access from a co-branded airline business card or a flexible rewards business card, there are a number of options out there.

If lounge access is a priority for your business travel, the key is to match the lounge network to the way you fly. If you want the widest coverage with flexibility across airlines and airports, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express stands out for its unparalleled access to The Centurion Lounge network, Delta Sky Clubs, Priority Pass and many more networks.

If you’d prefer a lower annual fee and still want access to both Priority Pass and a growing network of premium lounges, the Capital One Venture X Business Credit Card delivers strong value.

On the other hand, if loyalty to a specific airline is part of your travel routine, co-branded cards like the New United℠ Club Business Card or the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card can make sense, offering direct access to their respective lounges and added perks when you stick with that airline.
