Best Ways to Book Iberia Business Class with Points and Miles

The flag carrier of Spain, Iberia is a popular option for U.S. citizens traveling across the Atlantic Ocean to Spain or some other European destination. The Madrid-based airline is owned by International Airlines Group (IAG), the holding company that also owns British Airways, Aer Lingus, Vueling and several other small airlines. Behind British Airways, Iberia is generally considered to offer the second-best in-flight experience of any IAG airline. In fact, according to a Skytrax ranking from 2025, Iberia had one of the 20 best business-class products of any airline in the world.

On long-haul Iberia flights, business-class passengers will enjoy lie-flat beds that recline up to 180 degrees, a curated selection of complimentary fine wines, free Wi-Fi for text messaging apps, gourmet meals made with seasonal ingredients, access to premium airport lounges and more. However, when paying with cash, all of that luxury tends to come at a high price. Luckily, using points and miles, you can experience Iberia’s business-class product at a very low out-of-pocket cost.

In this article, we’ll identify some of the best frequent flyer programs through which to book Iberia business-class award flights, taking into consideration the rates charged by each program and how easy it is to earn points or miles with each program. We’ll also discuss what you can expect when flying in Iberia business class.

What to Expect in Iberia Business Class

The amenities and experience you’ll receive in Iberia business class depends on whether you’re taking a long-haul flight (which Iberia operates using Airbus A350 and Airbus A330 aircraft) or a medium- or short-haul flight (which are operated using Airbus A321XLR, Airbus A321, Airbus A320, Airbus A320 Neo and Airbus A319 aircraft). Long-haul Iberia business-class flights offer a much more luxurious experience than medium- or short-haul flights.

When ticketed in business class on either a long-, medium- or short-haul Iberia flight, you’ll be entitled to special treatment at the airport, including priority security (at certain airports), priority boarding, priority luggage collection, dedicated check-in counters and more.

And, if you’re flying out of Madrid or Barcelona, you can arrive in your own car and enjoy the Parking VIP service free-of-charge. There is, however, a time limit of three days for flights to the Canary Islands or international flights to Europe, the Middle East and Africa (except Dakar) and a time limit of seven days for international flights to the Americas, Asia and Dakar.

Business-class passengers on all Iberia flights will have access to all Iberia Premium Lounges, which are found in Madrid and Buenos Aires. The Iberia Premium Lounge in Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) was voted one of the 10 best business-class lounges in the world, according to a 2025 Skytrax ranking.

Plus, because Iberia is a member of Oneworld Alliance, Iberia business-class passengers can access Oneworld airport lounges all over the world. When it comes to in-flight amenities, as mentioned above, long-haul Iberia flights offer a much more luxurious experience than medium- or short-haul flights. On long-haul flights, business-class seats can be converted into fully-flat beds up to two meters long (about 78 inches). Each seat has an adjustable headrest and adjustable back and shoulder pillows with a massage function and a reading light, all of which can be controlled by a state-of-the-art touchscreen control panel.

On Airbus A330 aircraft, each business-class seat has its own 15.4-inch touchscreen entertainment monitor. On Airbus A350 aircraft, business-class passengers will enjoy their own massive 18.5-inch touchscreen entertainment monitor. Business-class passengers on all aircraft will have access to complimentary Wi-Fi for text messaging apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram and Viber.

If you need to charge your devices during your flight, long-haul business-class seats are equipped with universal power adapters (which are compatible with U.S., U.K. and European plugs). There are also USB ports (and a USB-C port on Airbus A350 aircraft).

Complimentary meals are provided to business-class passengers on Iberia long-haul flights. These meals are catered by Austrian catering company Do & Co and are inspired by the nutrient-rich Mediterranean diet, ensuring you’ll arrive at your destination feeling healthy and nourished. Plus, these meals utilize locally-sourced seasonal ingredients. All meals are served in high-quality crockery and glassware, including iconic “Las Meninas” salt and pepper pots inspired by the famous painting by Diego Velazquez.

Long-haul business-class passengers will also receive their choice of fine wine from Iberia’s seasonally curated list of white, red and sparkling wines. And, of course, you can request a snack or a drink from the in-flight staff at any time during your flight.

Best Programs Through Which to Book Iberia Business Class

Since Iberia is a member of Oneworld Alliance, there are several Oneworld frequent flyer programs that allow you to book Iberia business-class award flights. However, these programs can charge different rates for the same flights. And some programs make it much easier to earn points or miles by allowing transfers from U.S. credit card rewards programs.

So, with these factors in mind, let’s look at some of the best programs through which to book Iberia business-class award flights.

Iberia Plus

In many cases, the best frequent flyer program through which to book an Iberia business-class award is the Iberia Plus program. This program offers a lot of award availability for transatlantic Iberia business class flights, and Iberia flights are priced according to two fixed, distance-based award charts.

It’s worth mentioning that the Iberia Plus program uses the Avios rewards currency, which it shares with several other frequent flyer programs, including Aer Lingus AerClub, British Airways Executive Club, Finnair Plus, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, Vueling Club and more. Avios can be transferred between these programs freely.

Iberia publishes one award chart for off-peak pricing and another award chart for peak pricing. Awards at off-peak pricing levels tend to offer more value per Avios than peak awards. However, even at peak rates, you can find good value on Iberia-operated business-class awards through the Iberia Plus program.

For example, we found a round-trip Iberia business-class award itinerary between New York (JFK) and Madrid (MAD) during peak season for 100,000 Avios and about $279 in taxes and fees.

If you were to book the same flights with cash instead of Avios through the Iberia website, it would cost you about $3,005.

So, by booking these flights with Avios instead of cash, you’d be getting a value of about 2.7 cents per Avios, which is good. You can find similar awards that offer similar or even better value per Avios on many different routes through the Iberia Plus program with relative ease.

It’s also worth noting that, according to the Iberia Plus award chart, an Iberia business-class award on this same route during off-peak season would cost you 40,500 Avios in each direction, which is one of the best deals you can find on a business-class award across the Atlantic anywhere in the airline industry.

Plus, earning Avios with the Iberia Plus program is easy, as the program is a direct 1:1 transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards and Wells Fargo Rewards. And Avios can be transferred freely between programs that use the currency. You can also transfer points from Capital One Rewards to British Airways Executive Club or from Citi ThankYou Rewards to Qatar Airways Privilege Club and then transfer those Avios into your Iberia Plus account. So, basically, regardless of which U.S. credit card rewards program you use (except Brex), you should be able to transfer your points to Iberia Plus.

British Airways Executive Club

Another Avios-using program through which you can book Iberia business-class award flights is British Airways Executive Club. This program also prices Iberia award flights according to two fixed, distance-based award charts: one for peak season and another for off-peak season. In fact, the rates for Iberia business-class award flights at some distances are lower through British Airways Executive Club than through Iberia Plus.

However, when searching for an Iberia flight from Europe to the U.S., we always got an error message claiming that the award could not be booked online.

It’s unclear whether this is a temporary issue or whether Iberia-operated business-class flights can’t be booked online on this route. Nevertheless, the same issue was not present when booking Iberia business-class award flights from the U.S. to Europe. For instance, we found a one-way Iberia business-class award flight from Miami (MIA) to Madrid (MAD) for 62,500 Avios and about $134 in taxes and fees (which aligns with the rate stated in the British Airways Executive Club award chart for a flight of this distance).

If you were to book this same one-way flight through the Iberia website, it would cost you $5,508.

So, factoring in the taxes and fees paid for the award flight, this redemption would provide a value of about 8.6 cents per Avios, which is incredible. Of course, this number is inflated due to the fact that we searched for a one-way flight.

However, if you were to book a transatlantic mixed-carrier business-class itinerary through the British Airways Executive Club program that included an Iberia flight in one direction, you can still find great value.

And, the British Airways Executive Club makes it very easy to earn Avios, as the program is a transfer partner of several major U.S. credit card rewards programs, including American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One Rewards and Wells Fargo Rewards. While British Airways is not a transfer partner of Citi ThankYou Rewards, if you have a Citi ThankYou Rewards credit card, you can transfer Citi ThankYou points to the Qatar Airways Privilege Club program and then transfer those Avios freely to the British Airways Executive Club program.

American Airlines AAdvantage

For some U.S. travelers who have a large balance of miles in their American Airlines AAdvantage account balance, it’s worth noting that Iberia business-class award flights can also be booked through this program.

Unfortunately, finding Iberia business-class award space on transatlantic flights seems to be impossible through the AAdvantage program. However, you can find short- and medium-haul Iberia business-class award flights through this program, particularly on flights around Europe.

For instance, we found a round-trip Iberia business-class itinerary between London (LHR) and Madrid (MAD) for 35,000 AAdvantage miles and about $105 in taxes and fees.

Unfortunately, because the American Airlines AAdvantage program uses a dynamic pricing model to price partner award flights, you shouldn’t expect to get very good value on these Iberia business-class awards. If you were to book the same flights above on the same date with cash through the Iberia website, it would cost you $592.

So, factoring in the taxes and fees that you’d have to pay for the award flight, this redemption would give you a value of about 1.4 cents per mile, which is actually pretty good for the AAdvantage program, but poor compared to the value you can get through other programs.

American Airlines AAdvantage doesn’t allow transfers from any of the major U.S credit card rewards programs. So, if you’re looking to book an Iberia business-class award with credit card points, you’re better off doing so through Iberia Plus or British Airways Executive Club anyway.

The Bottom Line

Unfortunately, cash prices for Iberia business-class tickets can be out of many people’s price ranges. However, by booking these flights with points or miles, you can experience Iberia’s business-class product at a very low out-of-pocket cost.

One of the best ways to book Iberia business-class awards is through Iberia’s own frequent flyer program, through which you can find transatlantic flights from the U.S. to Spain for as little as 40,500 Avios each way.

You can also book Iberia business-class flights through the British Airway Executive Club and American Airlines AAdvantage programs. However, these programs tend to offer far less Iberia business-class award space. We recommend checking Iberia Plus first and keeping these other programs in mind as secondary options.
