The Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program, the frequent flyer program of Singapore’s national airline, has long been a favorite among travel-hacking enthusiasts because of its long list of airline partners, its partnerships with nearly every major credit card rewards program and its use of fixed award charts. It’s often possible to find award flight redemptions that offer several cents per mile in value through this program.
It’s worth noting that there are many other ways to redeem miles through the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program. However, in general, if you want to maximize the value of your miles, it’s best to stick to redeeming for award flights either on Singapore Airlines or one of its airline partners.
But, navigating frequent flyer programs and their online portals can be confusing and difficult. Luckily, the Singapore Airlines online award search engine is fairly easy to use compared to other frequent flyer programs. Nonetheless, in this article, we’re going to guide you through the step-by-step process of how to book an award flight through the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program.
Joining Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
Before you’re able to purchase award flights through Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, you’ll need to enroll in the program. So, if you don’t yet have a KrisFlyer account, you’ll want to visit the Singapore Airlines website and click the “Sign up” button in the top-right corner of the homepage.

Once you click that button, you’ll be redirected to a sign-up form, where you’ll be asked to provide some personal information, including your title, first and last name, date of birth, email address, mobile number and mailing address and to create a password. All of this information is secure and won’t be shared with outside parties.

If you were referred to the KrisFlyer program by a friend, you should also enter your friend’s membership number on this page. If you have a promo code, you can enter that in the “KrisFlyer registration promotion” section on this page.
Once you’ve done all this, click the “Continue” button at the bottom of the page and your account will be created. You’ll be assigned a unique KrisFlyer membership number, which you can use to sign in to your account in the future.
How To Earn Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles
As a member of the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program, you’re eligible to earn and redeem KrisFlyer miles. However, before you purchase an award flight, you’ll need to get some miles in your account. Award flight redemptions start at 15,000 miles through the KrisFlyer program, so you’ll need to have at least that many before you can purchase an award flight.
There are many ways to earn miles through the KrisFlyer program. However, some of these earning methods are much more effective than others. Generally, the best way to earn KrisFlyer miles is to transfer credit card points or pay for flights with either Singapore Airlines or one of its airline partners.
In the following sections, we’re going to look at how to use these earning methods to help you quickly save up enough miles for your next award flight.
Transfer Credit Card Points
For most members, the most effective way to earn KrisFlyer miles is going to be making points transfers from credit card rewards programs. Nearly every major credit card rewards program allows points transfers to the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program at a 1:1 ratio (with the notable exception of Wells Fargo Rewards). Here are the credit card rewards programs that allow 1:1 transfers to the KrisFlyer program:
- American Express Membership Rewards
- Capital One Rewards
- Chase Ultimate Rewards
- Citi ThankYou Rewards
So, for instance, if you were to earn 60,000 Capital One miles, you could transfer those points to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer at a 1:1 ratio and receive 60,000 KrisFlyer miles in seconds.
Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

once you spend $4,000 on purchases within 3 months from account opening, equal to $750 in travel.

Flying With Singapore Airlines or Partner Airlines
One of the best ways to earn KrisFlyer miles is by crediting paid flights on Singapore Airlines or one of its partner airlines to the KrisFlyer program. To do so, you’ll need to select Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer as your frequent flyer program of choice, then enter your membership number, either when making your booking or when checking in for your flight.
When flying with Singapore Airlines, you’ll earn KrisFlyer miles based on your fare class and the distance of your flight. The following table includes the mileage earnings percentage for each fare class:
Fare class | Fare code | Mileage earnings |
---|---|---|
Suites/First Class | A, F | 200% |
Business Class | C, J, Z | 150% |
D, U | 125% | |
Premium Economy | S, T | 125% |
R, L, P | 100% | |
Economy | B, E, Y | 100% |
H, M, W | 75% | |
K, N, Q, V, G | 50% |
For example, if you were to take a 1,000-mile Singapore Airlines flight in Economy class (fare code H), you would earn 750 KrisFlyer miles (1,000 miles flown x 75% = 750 KrisFlyer miles).
KrisFlyer members can earn miles on Scoot flights, though accrual rates are lower than those on Singapore Airlines flights, varying by fare class.
You can also earn KrisFlyer miles by taking paid flights with partner airlines. Singapore Airlines is a member of Star Alliance, which means you can earn KrisFlyer miles when flying with any Star Alliance airline. Here’s the current roster of Star Alliance airlines:
Aegean Airlines | Copa Airlines | Swiss International Air Lines |
Air Canada | Croatia Airlines | TAP Air Portugal |
Air China | EGYPTAIR | Thai Airways |
Air India | Ethiopian Airlines | Turkish Airlines |
Air New Zealand | EVA Air | United Airlines |
ANA (All Nippon Airways) | LOT Polish Airlines | |
Asiana Airlines | Lufthansa | |
Austrian Airlines | SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) | |
Avianca | Shenzhen Airlines | |
Brussels Airlines | South African Airways |
In addition to the Star Alliance partners listed above, Singapore Airlines has many non-Star Alliance partners with which you can earn KrisFlyer miles. These partners include:
Air France | JetBlue Airways |
Alaska Airlines | Malaysia Airlines |
Eurowings | Scoot |
Garuda Indonesia | SilkAir |
Fiji Airways | Vistara |
Each of these partner airlines earns KrisFlyer miles according to its own unique earning chart. So, to see how many KrisFlyer miles you’d earn on a specific partner flight, you’d visit the partner page on the Singapore airlines website and find the chart for the specific partner that you plan to fly with.
Other Ways To Earn
The KrisFlyer program also allows members to earn miles in several other ways. These include renting cars, using rideshare services, booking hotel stays, buying merchandise, subscribing to magazines and more.
However, in all likelihood, none of these earning methods will earn you a lot of KrisFlyer miles. Nonetheless, you could use these methods to earn a few extra miles to help you get a little bit closer to your next award flight.
How To Book Award Flights Through Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
Now that you’re familiar with how to join the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program and how to get a balance of points in your account, you’re ready to book award flights with KrisFlyer miles.
The first thing you’ll need to do is go to the Singapore Airlines website and sign into your KrisFlyer account using either your membership number or email address and your password.
From there, you’ll be returned to the Singapore Airlines homepage, where you’ll see the flight search tool (the same one you’d use to book cash flights). If you want to search for award flights instead of cash flights, all you have to do is click the “Redeem flights” bubble instead of the “Book flights” bubble.
Then, you can search for a flight as you normally would. Enter your departure and arrival airports, select your type of flight (round-trip or one-way), choose your departure and return dates (if applicable) and select your cabin class and number of passengers. Once all of that information is correct, click the blue “Search” button.
From there, you’ll be brought to a list of flight results that match your search query. You can choose to sort these results by travel duration, arrival time or departure time. You can also toggle the results to display flights from Singapore Airlines only, flights from Star Alliance airlines and flights from non-Star Alliance airlines.
Once you find a flight that fits your needs, click on the fare you want to book (either Saver or Advantage). Once you’ve selected a departure and return flight (if applicable), you can click the “Continue” button.
On the next page, you’ll be asked to confirm your flight selections. If you’re satisfied with your selections, click the “Continue” button.
After that, you’ll need to provide some passenger information, such as name, date of birth, frequent flyer program of choice and travel document number (if required). Next, you’ll have to provide a payment method to cover any applicable taxes and fees for your award flight.
Finally, you’ll be asked to confirm your booking. Once you confirm, you should receive an email to your registered email address with your booking confirmation number. You’ll need to input this number when checking in for your flight.
As you can see, the Singapore Airlines website makes the process of booking award flights on its own flights as well as with partner airlines simple and easy.
The Bottom Line
The Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program is one of the most beloved frequent flyer programs in existence for good reason. This program makes it easy to earn miles by transferring points from nearly any major credit card rewards program. The only notable program that doesn’t allow points transfers to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer is Wells Fargo Rewards. You can also quickly earn KrisFlyer miles by taking paid flights with Singapore Airlines or any of its many airline partners (including every Star Alliance airline).
When it comes to redeeming KrisFlyer miles, the Singapore Airlines website makes it easy to search for and book award flights both on Singapore Airlines and with partner airlines. And, since the KrisFlyer program prices its own award flights and partner award flights according to fixed award charts, it’s possible to find award flight redemptions that offer excellent value per point.
So, if you want to book award flights through the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program, simply follow the instructions above.
