If you’ve ever flown to Greece, there’s a good chance you’ve flown on Aegean Airlines, the country’s largest airline and flag carrier. Aegean Airlines operates a wide variety of routes throughout Europe and the Middle East and, through Aegean’s Star Alliance partners, you can access flights to nearly anywhere in the world.

Aegean Airlines operates its own frequent flyer program, known as Miles+Bonus, that allows members to earn rewards miles in a variety of ways and then redeem those miles for flights on Aegean Airlines as well as its airline partners. There are other ways to redeem miles through the Miles+Bonus program. However, if you want to get the most value out of your miles, you should stick to redeeming them for award flights.

In this article, we’re going to explain the process of how to book award flights through the Aegean Miles+Bonus program. Plus, we’ll tell you how to create a Miles+Bonus account and quickly rack up enough miles for an award flight.

Joining Aegean Miles+Bonus

Before you can start earning and redeeming miles through Aegean Miles+Bonus, you’ll need to be a member of the program. To enroll, visit the Aegean Airlines website and click the “Login/Register” button in the top-right corner of the homepage.

How to Earn Aegean Miles+Bonus Miles

As a Miles+Bonus member, there are a variety of ways you can earn rewards miles. However, some methods of earning miles are far more effective than others. In the following sections of this article, we’ll quickly cover a few of the most effective ways to earn Aegean miles.

It’s worth noting that the minimum price for an award flight through the Miles+Bonus program is 5,000 miles, which is enough for a one-way Aegean-operated domestic flight (within Greece) in Economy Flex class. So, before you can make an award flight redemption through this program, you’ll need to have at least that many points in your account balance (and probably considerably more).

Flying with Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air

For U.S.-based travelers, one of the best ways to earn Aegean miles is to take paid flights on Aegean Airlines or its low-cost regional subsidiary Olympic Air. When flying domestic (within Greece) on either Aegean or Olympic, the number of miles you’ll accrue depends only on your service class and booking class (and not on the distance of the flight). The following chart includes how many miles you’ll earn in each fare class when flying domestic on either Aegean or Olympic:

Service classBooking classMiles
Business ClassC, D, Z, A1,200
Business BasicC, D, Z, A1,100
Economy Class - Comfort Flex Y, M, B1,000

Economy Class - LightY, M, B500

So, for instance, if you were to book an Olympic Air-operated flight within Greece in Economy Comfort Flex (booking class U), you would earn 500 miles.

When flying internationally on either Aegean Airlines or Olympic Air, the number of miles you’ll accrue per flight is calculated as a percentage of the actual distance (in miles) of your flight. There’s also a minimum number of miles you’ll earn on each flight. The following chart includes the mileage accrual percentages associated with each booking class:

Service classBooking classAccrual percentageMinimum miles
Business ClassC, D, Z, A250%2,500
Business BasicC, D, Z, A220%2,200

Economy Class - LightL, W, V, O, Q, K, J, S, F50%400

For example, if you were to take a 1,000-mile international flight on Aegean Airlines in Economy Light (booking class V), you’d earn 500 miles (1,000 miles flown x 50% = 500 Aegean miles earned).

Flying with Partner Airlines

Members of the Aegean Miles+Bonus program can also earn rewards miles by flying with partner airlines. In order to do so, you must select Miles+Bonus as your frequent flyer program of choice and enter your membership number, either when booking your flight or when checking in. The amount of time that it takes for miles to land in your Miles+Bonus account depends on the partner you’re flying with.

Since Aegean Airlines is a member of Star Alliance, you can earn Aegean miles by flying with any Star Alliance airline. Here’s the current list of Star Alliance member airlines:

The number of miles you can earn by flying with partner airlines depends on the specific airline you’re flying with, the actual distance of the flight and your fare class. If you want to know how many miles you’ll accrue on a specific partner flight, visit the partners page on the Aegean Airlines website and click on the logo of the airline you plan on flying with.

These earnings tables work essentially the same way as the earnings table for Aegean Airlines international flights. To find out how many miles you’ll earn, all you have to do is multiply the actual distance in miles of your flight by the percentage associated with your booking class.

Other Ways to Earn

Unfortunately, unlike with many other frequent flyer programs, the Aegean Airlines Miles+Bonus program doesn’t allow transfers from any of the major U.S. credit card rewards programs, (such as American Express Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards) nor does it offer any co-branded credit cards to U.S. consumers. This makes it rather difficult to earn Aegean miles without flying on Star Alliance. And, in most cases, U.S. travelers will want to credit their Star Alliance flights to another frequent flyer program, such as Air Canada Aeroplan or United MileagePlus.

There are some other ways to earn miles through this program. However, none of them are very effective unless you plan on spending time in Greece. These other earning methods include renting cars, booking vacation packages, dining, going to cultural and entertainment events, shopping online and more. So, if you use the Aegean Miles+Bonus program as your primary frequent flyer program or you plan on spending some time in Greece and want to earn miles while you dine out, it’s worth familiarizing yourself with these earning opportunities.

How to Book Award Flights Through Aegean Miles+Bonus

Once you’ve accumulated enough miles to purchase an award flight, go to the Aegean Airlines website and log into your account by clicking the Login/Register button in the top-right corner of the homepage. You’ll need to verify your account credentials by entering a one-time code sent either to your email or your phone number.

Once you log in, you’ll be automatically directed to your account overview page, where you can see your account number as well as your miles balance. To book an award flight, scroll down on this page until you see the “Award ticket” hyperlink in the “Miles redemption” section.

When you click on the “Award ticket” hyperlink, you’ll be redirected to a new page, where you’ll find the award flight booking tool. From there, the process of booking an award flight is fairly similar to booking a cash flight. Start by selecting the type of flight you’d like to book (round-trip, one-way or multi-city). Then, enter your departure airport, your arrival airport, the number of passengers and your travel dates. Once all of that information is correct, click the blue “Search” button at the bottom of the page.

Next, you’ll be brought to a calendar view, where you can see the award rates for flights on your selected route for each day of the month. This feature is helpful if your travel dates are flexible and you’re willing to adjust them to save miles.

To select your travel dates, click on each day. Once your dates have been selected, click the blue “Continue” button at the bottom of the page.

From there, you’ll be shown a list of available award flights on your selected dates, including flights operated by Aegean Airlines or any of its airline partners. You can sort these results by departure time, arrival time, price and duration. You can also filter for direct flights only.

Once you find a flight that suits your needs, you can add that flight to your itinerary by clicking the cabin class you’d like to book. Once you do so, a drop-down menu will appear with your different options for fare classes. Click on the “Fare comparison” button to view the differences between these fare classes, including meals and beverages, cabin baggage, change and refund policies, lounge access, onboard Wi-Fi and more. You can then select your return flight (if applicable) and click the “Continue” button at the bottom of the page.

The next page will ask for personal information about any travelers on your itinerary, including title, name, frequent flyer program of choice, frequent flyer account number, phone number and email. Enter this information and click “Continue” again.

On the next two pages, you’ll have the option to select a seat (which may require an additional charge, depending on the fare class you’re booked in) and to add other travel extras to your itinerary, such as pets, fast track security, sports equipment, meals and parking.

Finally, you’ll have to add a payment method to cover any applicable taxes and fees for your itinerary. Once you do so, you can confirm your award flight booking and you’ll receive a confirmation number. You should also receive a confirmation email containing this number. You’ll need the confirmation number in order to check in for your flight, so we recommend writing this number down.

If you wish to change or cancel an award flight operated by Aegean Airlines, Olympic Air or a Star Alliance partner, you may have to pay a fee of 23 euros.

The Bottom Line

For most U.S.-based travelers, the Aegean Miles+Bonus program probably isn’t the best choice for your primary frequent flyer program. Unfortunately, this program doesn’t offer any co-branded credit cards to U.S. consumers, nor does it allow transfers from any of the major U.S. credit card rewards programs. Because of this, the best way for U.S. consumers to earn Aegean miles is to credit paid flights on Star Alliance airlines to the Miles+Bonus program.

However, if you live in the United States, you’ll probably want to credit your Star Alliance flights to another frequent flyer program, such as Air Canada Aeroplan or United Airlines MileagePlus. Thus, your opportunities to earn Aegean miles are going to be very limited.

Nonetheless, the Aegean Miles+Bonus program does price all award flights based on fixed award charts. So, if you are able to accumulate a balance of Aegean miles, you should be able to find high value-per-point redemptions through this program. And, while the process of booking award flights through this program can be confusing at times, you can always refer to the step-by-step guide in this article.
