When flying in Club World (British Airways’s long-haul business-class product), you’ll enjoy outstanding amenities, such as a six-foot-long lie-flat bed, a personal entertainment monitor of up to 17 inches, gourmet in-flight meals and more.

Of course, this type of luxury comes at a hefty price when you pay with cash. British Airways Club World business-class tickets can often cost several thousand dollars. However, by booking these flights with points and miles, you can keep out-of-pocket costs low while still getting to experience the luxury of British Airways business class.

So, in this article, we’ll identify some of the best frequent flyer programs through which to book British Airways business-class award flights. Plus, we’ll let you know what to expect when flying in British Airways business class.

What to Expect in British Airways Business Class

British Airways has two different business-class products: Club Europe and Club World. The Club Europe product is available on flights within Europe, whereas the Club World product (which is the more luxurious product) is available on intercontinental long-haul flights.

On selected flights, British Airways also offers a Club Suite product, which is the airline’s top-tier business-class product, offering even more privacy, a larger personal entertainment monitor and more.

When flying in Club Suite, you’ll enjoy a lie-flat seat of about 78 inches in length with tons of extra storage space. Each seat also has a door for maximum privacy and direct aisle access. You’ll also have a 17-inch high-resolution personal entertainment monitor with a massive selection of free content.

In Club World class, you’ll enjoy a 72-inch lie-flat seat, which is slightly smaller than the seats in Club Suite. Each seat is equipped with an adjustable headrest and lumbar support. You’ll also have a 12-inch personal entertainment monitor and noise-cancelling headphones.

In Club Europe class, you’ll enjoy contoured leather seats with a 30-inch seat pitch, access to in-seat power and lots of extra storage space.

In terms of food and beverage service, Club World and Club Suite passengers will receive their choice of a main course, served with a starter, dessert and cheese. You’ll also receive afternoon tea features on some routes. All Club World and Club Suite passengers will enjoy a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

When flying in Club Europe, you’ll receive a full British breakfast, lunch and traditional afternoon tea or dinner, depending on the time of your flight. You’ll also receive your choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Passengers in Club World will receive an amenity kit designed by The White Company, which includes moisturizer, skin-conditioning cream, lip balm, treatment oil and more. Best Programs Through Which to Book British Airways Business Class

Because British Airways is a member of Oneworld Alliance, there are several frequent flyer programs through which you can book British Airways business-class award flights. However, each of these programs prices award flights differently. So, the same British Airways business-class award flight may require more miles through one program than through another.

Plus, certain frequent flyer programs make it much easier to earn miles than others because they allow transfers from major U.S. credit card rewards programs. So, with these factors in mind, let’s look at some of the best frequent flyer programs through which to book British Airways business-class award flights.

Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards

One great program through which to book British Airways business-class flights is the Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards program. This program has a lot of British Airways award availability and it prices all British Airways-operated award flights according to a fixed, distance-based award chart, meaning you should be able to find British Airways business-class awards that offer outsized value.

For example, we were able to easily find a round-trip British Airways business-class award itinerary between New York (JFK) and London (LHR) for 90,000 miles and $450 in taxes and fees.

If you were to book this same flight itinerary with cash through the British Airways website, it would cost about $3,254.

So, by booking these flights with Alaska miles instead of cash, you’d be getting a redemption value of about 3.1 cents per mile (factoring in the taxes and fees paid for the award flight), which is quite good.

The Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards program is a direct 1:1 transfer partner of Bilt Rewards. Unfortunately, that’s the only major U.S. credit card program that allows transfers to the Atmos Rewards program.

British Airways Executive Club

Of course, you can also find lots of British Airways business-class award availability through the British Airways Executive Club frequent flyer program. This program prices British Airways award flights according to a distance-based award chart, which means you should be able to find outsized-value redemptions for British Airways business-class flights.

For example, we found a round-trip British Airways business-class award itinerary between Boston (BOS) and London (LHR) for 170,000 Avios plus $750 in taxes and fees.

Although this award flight itinerary has rather high taxes and fees, if you were to book these same flights entirely with cash through the British Airways website, they’d cost you $3,554.

So, by booking these flights with Avios instead of cash, you’d get a redemption value of about 1.6 cents per Avios (considering the $750 in taxes and fees you’d have to pay for the award flight), which is decent.

In general, it seems that Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards has better rates for British Airways transatlantic business-class award flights than British Airways Executive Club. So, you may want to check if you can book your flight with Atmos Rewards first and then use British Airways Executive Club as a backup.

However, British Airways Executive Club does have the advantage of allowing 1:1 transfers from many of the major U.S. credit card rewards programs, including American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards and Wells Fargo Rewards.

And, while British Airways Executive Club isn’t a direct transfer partner of Citi ThankYou Rewards, Avios can be transferred freely between the different programs that use this currency.

So, if you have a Citi ThankYou Rewards account, you could transfer points to the Qatar Airways Privilege Club first and then transfer those Avios to British Airways Executive Club.

If you have a credit card with nearly any major U.S. credit card issuer, it’s easy to transfer points to the British Airways Executive Club program and redeem them for British Airways business-class flights.

Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

Another good program through which to book British Airways business-class awards is the Cathay Pacific Asia Miles program. Through this program, you can find lots of British Airways business-class award space. And, since this program uses a fixed distance-based award chart for all partner award flights, you can often find outsized value on British Airways business-class awards.

For instance, we found a round-trip British Airways business-class award itinerary between New York (JFK) and London (LHR) for 126,000 miles and 6,705 Hong Kong Dollars (about $854) in taxes and fees.

If you were to book these same flights with cash through the British Airways website, it would cost you about $4,204.

So, by booking this flight through Cathay Pacific Asia Miles rather than with cash, factoring in the taxes and fees you’d have to pay for the award flight, you’d get a value of about 2.7 cents per mile, which is good.

Plus, the Cathay Pacific Asia Miles program is a 1:1 transfer partner of many of the major U.S. credit card rewards programs, including American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One Rewards and Citi ThankYou Rewards. So, if you have a credit card from any of these issuers, earning miles with the Asia Miles program is relatively easy.

The Bottom Line

British Airways offers an excellent business-class product that’s relatively easy to book at favorable rates with points and miles. When flying in British Airways Club World (the airline’s business-class product for long-haul intercontinental flights), you’ll receive top-tier amenities, such as a lie-flat seat, large entertainment monitor, complimentary gourmet meals and beverages, an amenity kit containing self-care products and more. Plus, you’ll get preferential treatment at the airport and access to airport lounges.

However, cash prices for British Airways business-class flights can be thousands of dollars on certain routes. So, by booking these flights through certain frequent flyer programs, you can keep out-of-pocket costs low and get great value for your airline miles.

The best programs through which to book British Airways business-class flights are generally Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards, British Airways Executive Club and Cathay Pacific Asia Miles. All three of these programs allow transfers from several major U.S. credit card companies and also price British Airways award flights using fixed award charts.
