Most U.S.-based travelers are probably unfamiliar with the Spanish airline Vueling. The airline is relatively young, having started operations in 2004 with a single route between Barcelona and Ibiza. However, over the years, the airline has expanded its route network around Europe and was acquired by International Airlines Group (IAG) in 2013.

Like many of the airlines under the IAG corporate umbrella, Vueling has its own frequent flyer program (known as Vueling Club) that uses the Avios rewards currency. Avios are unique in that they can be freely transferred among the frequent flyer programs that use this currency. So, Vueling Club members can freely transfer any Avios they earn with the program to Aer Lingus AerClub, British Airways Executive Club, Finnair Plus, Iberia Plus or Qatar Airways Privilege Club.

The Vueling Club program is far less impressive than some of the other programs that use the Avios currency in terms of opportunities to earn Avios and the value you can get by redeeming Avios. So, in all likelihood, there won’t be much reason for you to use this program. Nonetheless, if you fly on Vueling often and you want to earn elite status with this program, then it’s worth getting familiar with it.

So, in this article, we’re going to explain the process of booking award flights through the Vueling Club program as well as how to join the program and quickly earn Avios.

Joining Vueling Club

Before you can start earning or redeeming Avios through Vueling Club, you’ll have to be a registered member of the program. To enroll, go to the Vueling website and click the yellow account icon in the top-right corner of the homepage.

A pop-up login window will appear, where you can click the “Create your account” link.

After that, you’ll be redirected to a new page where you’ll need to enter some personal information, including your name, email address, password and two security questions. This information will only be used to improve your experience and security with the Vueling Club program and won’t be shared with outside parties.

Finally, you’ll need to accept the terms and conditions and click the “Sign up” button at the bottom of the page. Once you’ve done that, you’ll receive a unique Vueling Club membership number, which you can use to sign into your Vueling Club account and to earn Avios with the program. We recommend writing this number down.

How to Earn Vueling Club Avios

As a member of the Vueling Club program, you’re eligible to earn Avios in a variety of ways. However, some methods of earning Avios through the Vueling Club are more effective than others. In the following sections, we’ll identify the best ways to earn Avios through this program.

It’s worth mentioning that, through this program, Avios can be redeemed to offset the cash price of a flight and are always worth a fixed value. This means that, once you earn your first few Avios, you can start redeeming them against the cash price of a flight.

Flying with Vueling

Unlike many other frequent flyer programs, Vueling Club doesn’t allow you to earn Avios on partner-operated flights, with the exception of Iberia flights in certain cases.

The number of Avios you’ll earn for a Vueling-operated flight depends on the price you paid for your flight (excluding airport fees) and your fare type. Here’s how many Avios per euro you’ll earn with each Vueling fare type:

Fare typeAvios per euro spent
Fly Light2X
Fly, Fly Grande4X

So, for example, if you purchased a Vueling-operated flight ticket in Fly Grande for 400 euros, you’d earn 1,600 Avios on that flight (400 euros x 4 = 1,600 Avios).

It’s worth mentioning, though, that the Iberia Plus program tends to offer higher Avios earnings on Vueling flights than Vueling Club does. And, since Avios can be freely transferred between programs, you’re usually better off crediting your Vueling flights to the Iberia Plus program and then transferring them to whichever other program you want to redeem them through (including Vueling Club).

So, before you take your next Vueling flight, you should compare how many Avios you could earn for it through Vueling Club (using the table above) to how many you’d earn by crediting it to Iberia Plus (using the Iberia Plus Vueling partner earning chart).

Booking Hotel Stays

Another effective way to earn Avios with Vueling Club is by booking hotel stays and vacation rentals with certain partners—specifically, Airbnb and Booking.com. You can also earn Vueling Club Avios by booking stays with Marriott Bonvoy and Melia Rewards. However, these hotel chains have their own rewards currencies and, by electing to earn Avios for your stay, you’ll be forfeiting the opportunity to earn hotel points on that stay.

Airbnb and Booking.com, on the other hand, do not have their own points. So, when crediting stays booked through Airbnb or Booking.com to Vueling Club, you won’t be missing out on the opportunity to earn hotel points.

You can earn 2X Avios per euro spent on stays booked through the Airbnb-Vueling partnership link. You can earn 3X Avios per euro spent through the Booking.com-Vueling partnership site.

Other Ways to Earn

There are several other ways to earn Avios through the Vueling Club program. Apart from booking flights with Vueling and booking hotel stays with certain partners, you can earn Avios by renting cars, buying gas, using rideshare services, buying merchandise online or in-store and more.

Unfortunately, these other earning methods aren’t particularly effective. Nonetheless, if you use the Vueling Club program as your primary frequent flyer program, you may want to look into some of these other earning methods so you can pick up some extra Avios here and there.

Booked award flights through Vueling Club

How to Book Award Flights Through Vueling Club

Avios can only be redeemed for flights on Vueling or Iberia through the Vueling Club program. As a disclaimer, we recommend transferring any Avios that you have in your Vueling Club to one of the other Avios-using programs. In general, these other programs allow you to redeem Avios for flights on many more airlines and offer much better value per Avios on all flights, including flights on Vueling.

When redeeming Avios for flights through the Vueling Club program, you’ll get a fixed value of about 0.5 cents per Avios, which is very poor. By transferring Avios to one of these other Avios-using programs, you’re almost guaranteed to get better value per Avios (and you’ll greatly expand your options for airlines that you can book award flights with).

To book an award flight through Vueling Club, start by visiting the Vueling website and logging in to your Vueling Club account by clicking the yellow account icon in the top-right corner of the homepage.

Once you’ve logged in to your account, you’ll need to return to the homepage. From there, the process of booking an award flight is pretty much the same as booking a cash flight. You’ll enter your departure and arrival airports, travel dates and the number of passengers. Then, click the yellow “Search” button.

You’ll then be shown a list of results that match your search query. You’ll also see important information about each flight, including operating airline, departure time, arrival time, flight duration, any stopovers and the price of the flight (in euros).

To add a flight to your itinerary, click on the price of that flight (which is highlighted in yellow on the right side of the flight listing). Once you click on the price, a drop-down window will appear with the available fare types (such as Fly, Fly Grande and Fly Light) as well as what’s included in each fare type, including baggage allowance, seat selection, and change and cancellation fees.

Once you select your fare type, that flight will be added to your itinerary. You can repeat this process for your return flight if you’re flying round-trip. Then, the total cash price of your flights will be displayed at the bottom of your screen. If that looks right, click the yellow “Continue” button. You’ll be able to use Avios to partially offset or fully cover this cash price later in the booking process.

On the next page, you’ll need to enter the names of any passengers on your itinerary as well as their email address, phone number and home address. If any passengers have special needs, you can also check that box on this page. Once all of that information is filled in, click the “Continue” button.

Next, you can select your seat on your flights, which may require an additional charge depending on your fare type. You’ll also be able to pay for additional baggage on this page. And, you’ll be given the option to add a rental car to your itinerary.

Finally, on the payment page, you have the option to cover the cost of your flight either partially or entirely with Avios. As mentioned before, each Avios is worth about 0.5 cents per point when used to offset the cost of your flight (which is very poor). If you want to pay for your flight with a mix of Avios and cash, you’ll also need to add a payment method, such as a debit or credit card or PayPal account.

If you choose to cancel your award flight, you can have your Avios refunded to the same account with which you purchased your flight.

The Bottom Line

As mentioned above, there’s really no reason to earn or redeem Avios through the Vueling Club program rather than one of the other Avios-using programs unless you’re working toward Vueling Club elite status. The Vueling Club program offers inferior Avios-earning rates on flights compared to other programs. And, you can expect about 0.5 cents per point in value when redeeming Avios through this program, whereas other Avios-using programs (such as British Airways Executive Club or Qatar Airways Privilege Club) often offer several cents per Avios in value.

We’d recommend that, if you plan on earning Avios on future flights, you do so through another program. For instance, the Iberia Plus program offers better earnings rates on Vueling flights than the Vueling Club program does. And, if you already have Avios in your Vueling Club account balance, you should transfer those Avios to a different Avios-using program, which you can do for free.

Nonetheless, if you want to use your Avios through the Vueling Club program, you can follow the guide in this article. But we’d recommend against it.
