Fortune Wings Club is the collective frequent flyer program of several Chinese Airlines. And, while this frequent flyer program isn’t the easiest to use or the most lucrative, it’s probably the best frequent flyer program offered by a Chinese airline. So, if you tend to take flights around China often, you’ll probably want to pay attention to the Fortune Wings Club program.
One major advantage of Fortune Wings Club over other Chinese frequent flyer programs is the fact that you can earn points with many different airlines. Here are all of the airlines that are part of the Fortune Wings Club program:
- Air Changan
- Capital Airlines
- Fuzhou Airlines
- Grand China Air
- Guangxi Beibu Gulf Airlines
- Hainan Airlines
- Hong Kong Airlines
- Lucky Air
- Suparna Airlines
- Tianjin Airlines
- Urumqi Airlines
- West Air
In addition to earning points with the airlines listed above, you can also earn Fortune Wings Club points by taking paid flights with Alaska Airlines, Etihad Airways and Virgin Australia.
Unfortunately, booking award flights through the Fortune Wings Club program is extremely confusing and doesn’t typically yield very high value per point. So, for most U.S. travelers, this program just isn’t worth the hassle.
Nonetheless, if you take a lot of flights on any of the Chinese airlines listed above, you’ll want to use this program to earn rewards points. In this article, we’ll explain the process of redeeming those points for award flights. We’ll also cover how to join the Fortune Wings Club program (if you aren’t already a member) and the best ways to earn points.
Joining Fortune Wings Club
Before you can earn or redeem points with Fortune Wings Club, you’ll need to be a member of the program. To enroll, go to the Fortune Wings Club website and click the “Register” button beneath the “Member Login” tab.

There, you’ll be asked to enter some personal information to create your account, including your country of residence, name, travel document number, gender and date of birth. You’ll also be asked to create a password and choose your preferred language. Finally, you’ll need to enter a phone number and email address. You’ll also need to verify your phone number using a verification code.

Once all of that’s done, click the checkbox to agree to the program terms and conditions and press the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page.
You’ll then receive your Fortune Wings Club digital membership card, which will have your membership number written on it. You’ll need this number to log into your account and earn points with Fortune Wings Club. We recommend writing this number down somewhere so you won’t forget it. You should also receive a welcome email from Fortune Wings Club.
How to Earn Fortune Wings Club Points
As a member of the Fortune Wings Club program, you’re eligible to earn points in a variety of ways. However, some methods of earning points are more effective than others. In the following sections, we’ll highlight some of the most effective ways to earn Fortune Wings Club points.
The cheapest award flight that we’ve seen through the Fortune Wings Club program cost 6,500 points. So, before you can purchase an award flight, you’ll need to have at least that many points in your account balance.
Taking Paid Flights with Fortune Wings Club-Participating Airlines
By far, the best way to earn Fortune Wings Club points is going to be to take paid flights with airlines that participate in the program. Once again, you can earn points with any of the Chinese airlines listed above as well as with Alaska Airlines, Etihad Airways and Virgin Australia.
With some airlines, the number of points you’ll earn per flight depends on the cost of your airfare. However, with other airlines, the number of points you’ll earn is based on the distance of your flight and your fare class.
The easiest way to find out how many points you’ll earn on a paid flight is to use the Points Calculator tool on the Fortune Wings Club website. With this tool, you can simply enter the airline that you plan on flying with as well as your departure and arrival airports and it will calculate how many points you could earn on that flight in each booking class.
For example, here’s how many points you could earn on an Alaska Airlines-operated flight from Los Angeles (LAX) to Seattle (SEA):

However, it should be noted that flights on Alaska Airlines, Etihad Airways and Virgin Australia can be credited to many other frequent flyer programs. So, before you choose to credit flights on these airlines to the Fortune Wings Club program, you should consider whether you would rather credit them to another program. In most cases, you’re probably better off crediting flights on these airlines to a better frequent flyer program.
With Chinese airlines that participate in Fortune Wings Club, there aren’t any other frequent flyer programs to which you can credit paid flights. So, you may as well credit all paid flights on these airlines to the Fortune Wings Club program.
Booking Hotel Stays
If you’re flying around China on Fortune Wings Club-participating airlines, there’s a good chance that you’re staying at hotels in China as well. And, when staying with certain hotel chains in China and abroad, you can earn Fortune Wings Club points at decent rates.
The following table includes the hotel chains with which you can earn Fortune Wing Club points and each partner’s earnings rate:
Hotel partner | Fortune Wings Club points earnings |
---|---|
IHG Rewards |
|
Jinling Hotels & Resorts |
|
Minyoun Hospitality |
|
Shangri-La Circle |
|
Wanda Hotels & Resorts |
|
When staying with any of the major hotel chains listed above (including IHG and Shangri-La), you can credit your stay to several different frequent flyer programs or to that hotel’s own rewards program. We recommend crediting these stays to the hotel’s own rewards program (IHG One Rewards or Shangri-La Circle) instead of crediting them to the Fortune Wings Club program.
On the other hand, with the other smaller hotel partners listed above (such as Wanda Hotels & Resorts or Minyoun Hospitality), there’s no opportunity to earn other types of rewards. So, you may as well earn some Fortune Wings Club points for your stay.
Other Ways to Earn
In addition to taking paid flights and booking hotel stays with select hotel brands, there are several other ways to earn Fortune Wings Club points, including transferring points from certain banks, transferring points from certain hotel rewards programs, renting cars and purchasing points with cash.
Unfortunately, none of these other earning methods are particularly effective on their own. However, if you use the Fortune Wings Club program often, you may want to pay attention to these other earning methods as they could help you rack up a few more points here and there.

How to Book Award Flights Through Fortune Wings Club
One of the biggest drawbacks of the Fortune Wings Club program is that the process of booking award flights is incredibly confusing. Award flights operated by certain airlines can only be booked on certain websites and award flights operated by other airlines can only be booked over the phone by calling the Fortune Wings Club customer service line. And, after calling this customer service line myself, it seems that Fortune Wings Club customer service representatives are not required to speak English, which makes it almost impossible to book awards flights with certain airlines.
Nonetheless, there are a select few airlines for which the process of booking an award flight is fairly simple. One such airline is Hong Kong Airlines. Below, we’ll describe the process of booking a Hong Kong Airlines-operated award flight with Fortune Wings Club points. Attempting to book award flights on most other available airlines through this program just isn’t worth the effort.
To begin the process of booking an award flight on Hong Kong Airlines with Fortune Wings Club points, you’ll first need to visit the Hong Kong Airlines website. Then, on the homepage, you’ll need to click the “Log in/Sign up” button and sign in using your Fortune Wings Club credentials.
Once you’ve successfully signed into your account, you can return to the homepage and click on the “Award Tickets” tab. Then, log in with your credentials.
You’ll be redirected to a flight booking page, where the process of booking an award flight is fairly similar to booking and cash flight. You’ll need to enter your type of flight (round-trip or one-way), departure airport, arrival airport, travel dates, number of passengers and preferred cabin class. You can also choose to have rates displayed in your preferred currency (which will be U.S. dollars for most of our readers). Once all of that information is correct, click the search button in the bottom-right corner.
After that, you’ll be shown a list of Hong Kong Airline-operated flight results that match your search query as well as each flight’s cost in Fortune Wings Club points and any applicable taxes and fees. Taxes and fees will be displayed in the currency that you selected on the previous page.
You’ll also be able to see important information about each of these flights, including departure times, arrival times, number of stops and flight duration. Select the flights that you want to add to your itinerary by clicking on the rate to the right of the flight result that corresponds with the cabin class you wish to book.
Once you’ve selected your flights, you’ll be asked to enter some personal information about any passengers included in your itinerary, such as name, country of residence, date of birth, phone number and email address.
Finally, you’ll be asked to provide a payment method to cover any applicable taxes and fees. Once you do so, you can confirm your award flight booking and you’ll receive a confirmation number, which you’ll need to check into your flight. You should also receive a confirmation email containing this number. We recommend writing down your confirmation number somewhere so that you won’t forget it.
The Bottom Line
You should really only pay attention to the Fortune Wings Club program if you take flights around China on one of the Chinese Fortune Wings Club-participating airlines often. This is really the only effective way to earn Fortune Wings Club points for most U.S. travelers. You can also earn Fortune Wings Club points by flying with certain airlines (Alaska Airlines, Etihad Airways and Virgin Australia). However, you’re much better off crediting paid flights on these airlines to other, more lucrative frequent flyer programs.
Redeeming points through the Fortune Wings Club program is somewhat of a nightmare. While it’s fairly simple to redeem points for award flights on Hong Kong Airlines (although Hong Kong Airlines-operated award flights tend to provide low value per point), redeeming points for award flights on nearly any other airline will most likely require you to call Fortune Wings Club customer service. And, if you and your customer service representative don’t speak the same language, it’s going to be nearly impossible to book an award flight.
All in all, most of our readers will want to steer clear of the Fortune Wings Club program. However, if you happen to be part of the small percentage that takes domestic flights around China often, you can refer to this article for assistance.
