American Express has updated the eligibility terms for the American Express® Gold Card. The following terms were pulled directly from the terms for the Gold Card:
“You may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer if you have or have had this Card, the Premier Rewards Gold Card, the Platinum Card®, the Platinum Card® from American Express Exclusively for Charles Schwab, the Platinum Card® from American Express Exclusively for Morgan Stanley or previous versions of these Cards.”
This new change means that if you’ve earned a welcome offer on any version of The Platinum Card® from American Express before, you cannot earn it on the Gold card.
Our Recommendation
This isn’t reciprocal at this moment – meaning that the same restriction doesn’t exist on the Platinum card. If you were looking at getting these cards, we would recommend getting the gold first, then the platinum, since the restriction does not apply to Platinum.
Similarly, if you were wanting to get the American Express Green Card (all information about the American Express Green Card has been collected independently by 10xTravel) then you should do the Green and the Gold before the Platinum (although the restriction isn’t on the Green currently, it would make sense to flow there).
