Whether you and your honey enjoy the city, the mountains, the lake, or the beach, here’s a list of IHG properties that we think you should check out.
Kimpton: Hotel Monaco Denver
There is never a dull moment in downtown Denver, and if you’re keen for a Rocky Mountain getaway, book in with the Kimpton: Hotel Monaco Denver.
While city life may look a bit different these days, Denver offers a metropolitan feel with an opportunity for a mountain escape. The Colorado capital is flanked by several smaller towns that offer not just trailheads, but unique cafes, boutiques, and breweries.
Use this property as your central-Colorado home base and explore all that the Front Range has to offer. Prices usually start around 50,000 points per night.
Holiday Inn: Niagara Falls-Scenic Downtown
While some are pulling extra hours during this time, others have been faced with an unprecedented amount of time away from the office. In that case, some have had unexpected opportunities to cross off bucket-list destinations that they simply haven’t had time to visit before.
If you or your partner have never visited Niagara Falls, perhaps now is an opportunity to do so. Located right next to Niagara Falls State Park and not too far from Prospect Point, Holiday Inn: Niagara Falls-Scenic Downtown is a perfect place to redeem your points and tick that box. Prices usually start around 23,500 points per night.
Hotel Indigo Nashville
Whether it’s hot chicken, Tennessee whiskey, or Music Row, Nashville has a special something that no other city in the US can match. Tennessee’s capital is home to the celebrated Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum, the Grand Ole Opry and the Johnny Cash Museum & Cafe; perfect for country music enthusiasts, concertgoers, and museum lovers.
The Hotel Indigo Nashville conveniently places guests in Printer’s Alley, adjacent to the Tennessee State Capitol building and a few blocks from the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum. Take a sunny day walk to the Nashville Farmer’s Market for lunch and don’t miss the vivid, colorful street murals that decorate Nashville’s city walls.
Prices usually start around 40,000 points per night.
Crowne Plaza Resort Asheville
Whenever I’ve asked native Carolinians to name their favorite Carolina town, I’m never surprised to hear that many of them rank Asheville among their top choices. Asheville is a charmingly diverse town, bringing together old, grand estates and new, chic cafes, boutiques, and breweries.
Crowne Plaza Resort Asheville is located just west of the French Broad River, with easy highway access to downtown. Enjoy a date at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge or tour the famous Biltmore Estate during your stay in town. Prices usually start around 20,000 points per night.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Cedar City
Cedar City may seem like some middle-of-nowhere Utah town, but outdoor enthusiasts may recognize it as one of the western gateways to Utah’s many national parks and recreational areas.
Conveniently located near the airport, Holiday Inn Express & Suites Cedar City is a great first (or last) stop on a southern Utah adventure. Stick around and hike some of the nearby trails, or hit the highway and head east towards Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Zion, Canyonlands, Arches, Cedar Breaks, and Grand Staircase-Escalante. For hikers, climbers, and adventurers, southern Utah is an absolute dream. Prices usually start around 17,500 points per night.
InterContinental New Orleans
Always in the middle of a party no matter what time of year, New Orleans is a perfect place to visit if you’d rather just forget all of your troubles for a while.
Redeem your IHG points at the InterContinental New Orleans, located just minutes from the famous French Quarter and all of our favorite NOLA haunts. Grab breakfast at Cafe Amelie and lunch at Red Fish Grill, hitting favorite bars like Pat O’Brien’s along the way.
If you aren’t comfortable going out so much, you’ll have plenty of wonderful dining options and amenities on-site that can help keep you and your sweetheart safe during your getaway. Prices usually start around 34,000 points per night.
Holiday Inn Resort Bar Harbor – Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park is not the easiest place to get to, which makes it an ideal spot for an escape. It isn’t particularly difficult to make the journey, but Acadia is located in an archipelago along the Gulf of Maine in an area that is just about as northeastern as one can get while remaining on land. Characterized by deep blue waterfronts, spruce trees, and granite crag, the area offers a quaint, romantic, natural vibe that might be just the ticket for a romantic weekend.
Just north of Acadia lies the Holiday Inn Resort Bar Harbor – Acadia National Park, offering a great home base for your hiking and sightseeing adventures as well as direct access to Frenchman Bay. Prices usually start around 27,500 points per night.
Hotel Indigo Traverse City
One of America’s hidden gems is the town of Traverse City, located in the lower peninsula of the Great Lakes State. Michigan is one of those places that you won’t visit unless you visit on purpose, so if you haven’t been, we suggest putting it on your agenda.
Traverse City is peaceful in the off-season and bustling during summer, but always perfect for visiting the shores of Grand Traverse Bay. Book in with the Hotel Indigo Traverse City as your Traverse City home base, and don’t forget to visit the many northern Michigan breweries and wineries conveniently located in the area! Prices usually start around 35,000 points per night.
Hotel Indigo San Diego del Mar
If you and your darling are pining for a seaside escape, the San Diego beaches are an excellent choice.
Hotel Indigo San Diego del Mar places guests just one block from the trail that lines San Diego’s expansive beaches, offering plenty of space to spread out and catch some rays. This boutique property offers a blend of SoCal sophistication with quirky, nautical themes to get you and your sweetheart into a relaxed, beachy mood.
Enjoy a much-needed rest on the beach, or head south of town to hit the hiking trails at Torrey Pines State Reserve. Prices usually start around 40,000 points per night.
InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile
If you are looking for a luxury downtown getaway, the Magnificent Mile district of Chicago is always a good bet. It might be a bit more difficult to justify traveling to a busy metropolitan area during these times, but if you’d still like to visit the Windy City, why not book in with a luxury property that has everything you need onsite?
The stunning InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile is a proud member of the Historic Hotels of America, as it opened its doors in 1929 and has held onto that Roaring Twenties vibe ever since. Enjoy the on-site amenities, dining options, and historic luxury decor; no need to leave the hotel when you’re staying in one of Chicago’s historic treasures! Prices usually start around 58,000 points per night.
As the travel industry continues to adapt to the pandemic protocol, hotels around the US are open and ready for travelers who need them. IHG properties are no exception with updated COVID-19 travel policies and the IHG Way of Clean promise, aiming to ensure a stay that is as stress-free as possible for all guests and employees. You may notice a few property-dependent modifications such as closed fitness centers and grab-and-go breakfasts, but IHG’s commitment to customer care remains unchanged.
IHG has teamed up with Cleveland Clinic, Ecolab, and Diversey in order to provide the best possible commitment to efficient cleanliness, so a stay with IHG is ideal if you are in need of a weekend getaway but you aren’t looking to camp or rent a home share.
It’s important to note that, following Marriott’s lead, IHG has introduced its own dynamic pricing model and done away with the awards chart. This means that awards redemptions won’t be consistent throughout the year, but the impact of COVID-19 on dynamic pricing trends remains to be seen. From a cursory search, though, it seems as if the redemption rates are decent if you are booking relatively last-minute, i.e. within a month of your stay. This won’t apply to every property and seems not to apply to luxury-category properties (i.e. Category 11) but finding a decent redemption should not be too difficult during a time when folks are not traveling as much.
IHG has a great selection of hotels all over the U.S. (and the world). No matter what kind of couples getaway you’re looking for, you’re sure to be able to find something that hits the mark. Better yet, IHG points are relatively easy to earn, and especially due to current low cash prices, point redemptions can be super affordable.
