With Christmas and New Year’s on the horizon, and the calendar year coming to an end, it’s crucial to ensure that you’ve maximized your credit cards’ perks to the full.

The hardest part of juggling multiple credit cards simultaneously is ensuring that you’ve squeezed every last drop of value out of your cards’ perks—be it statement credit perks, companion passes or annual free night awards.

However, statement credit perks are some of the easiest perks to maximize, as long as you stay on top of your spending—particularly if credits are issued monthly or quarterly instead of annually.

Here’s a rundown of all American Express cards that offer statement credit perks, as well as an assessment of how much value you can still squeeze out of them if you haven’t yet used them. Treat this article as a checklist to help you offset those pesky annual fees.

American Express Platinum Card®

It’s no secret that American Express Platinum Card® boasts the longest list of statement credit perks of any card on the market. And with an annual fee of $895 (see rates and fees), you must maximize as many of these statement credit perks as possible to help offset the annual fee.

While some of the Platinum Card’s statement credit perks can be used in a single purchase, many are issued quarterly, monthly or biannually. That means that if you haven’t already been using these credits regularly, you won’t be able to maximize their value in full. Nevertheless, there’s no reason not to use what you still can, as every little helps when it comes to offsetting the annual fee.

The first credit to use in full, if you haven’t already, is the $200 annual hotel credit for prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® or The Hotel Collection bookings made through American Express Travel®. Keep in mind that The Hotel Collection requires a minimum stay of two nights to qualify for the credit.

When you book your stay, you’ll be able to take advantage of another Platinum Card credit: the $100 experience credit. You’ll receive up to $100 experience credit for bookings with Fine Hotels + Resorts® or The Hotel Collection (two-night minimum stay required) made through American Express Travel®. Eligible charges vary by hotel.

If your hotel stay requires a flight to get to, then you’re in luck. You can use the Platinum Card’s $200 statement credit for airline incidental fees, which you can apply to one of the following preselected airlines:

  • Alaska Airlines
  • American Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • JetBlue Airways
  • Spirit Airlines
  • Southwest Airlines
  • United Airlines

You’ll need to preselect this airline from within your American Express account before making any purchases with the airline. You can then have checked baggage fees, in-flight purchases and other incidental fees reimbursed up to $200 when you cover them using your Platinum Card.

Statement credit perk maximization doesn’t stop there. You can smooth out the edges of your airport experience by using the Platinum Card’s $209 statement credit for CLEAR Plus membership as well as its credit toward Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fees.

As an Platinum Card® Card holder, you’ll receive either a $120 statement credit every four years for a Global Entry application fee or a statement credit up to $85 every 4.5 years for a TSA PreCheck application fee (when applying through a TSA official enrollment provider), in each case when charged to your eligible American Express card.

So make your airport experience as smooth as possible by squeezing the value out of these perks before the calendar year ends.

That still leaves you with another $995 worth of statement credits to ensure you’ve maximized.

If you shop at Walmart or would be open to switching to Walmart, sign up for a Walmart+ membership and use your Platinum Card® Card to pay for it. You’ll receive $12.95 per month in statement credits toward your membership, allowing you to receive at least $38.85 in credits by the end of the year (assuming you sign up in October).

Similarly, if you have the opportunity to take an Uber somewhere or if you want to stay home and enjoy some great food, add your Platinum Card to your Uber account and pay for your order using it. You’ll receive $15 in monthly Uber Cash credits for Uber Eats and Uber Rides orders, with an extra bonus of $20 in Uber Cash in December. That means you could still score yourself $65 worth of value before the year ends.

Keep in mind that to receive this benefit, you must have downloaded the latest version of the Uber App and your eligible Platinum Card® Card must be the method of payment on your Uber account. The Amex Benefit may only be used in the United States.

With the holidays on the horizon, you could also take advantage of the Platinum Card®’s up to $100 annual statement credit for Saks Fifth Avenue or saks.com to buy the perfect gift. The credit is issued in $50 biannual increments but you could still get at least $50 worth of value from it if you haven’t already used it in the first half of the year.

Likewise, you can also get up to $25 a month in statement credits toward direct purchases with Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu, The New York Times, Peacock and The Wall Street Journal, when you enroll and pay using your Platinum Card® Card. That means you could still get up to $75 in credits until the end of the year.

Lastly, you can still take advantage of a statement credit of up to $300 for an Equinox+ digital subscription or membership. However, keep in mind that an Equinox membership costs upwards of $300 per month, so ensure that it’s of value to you before signing up.

The Business Platinum Card® from American Express

The Business Platinum Card® from American Express boasts almost as many statement credit perks as its consumer-version sibling card, which go a long way in offsetting its $895 annual fee (see rates and fees).

The card shares many of the same statement credit perks as the Platinum Card, including the following:

  • $200 annual hotel credit for prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® or The Hotel Collection bookings made through American Express Travel®. Minimum stay of two nights required for The Hotel Collection.
  • $100 experience credit when you book a minimum stay of two nights with The Hotel Collection through American Express Travel®
  • Up to $200 annual statement credit for airline incidental fees, including in-flight purchases and checked bags, to be applied to one qualifying airline (must be the same airline as the 35% airline bonus).
  • $209 statement credit for CLEAR Plus membership
  • Statement credit for a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee, every four years.

Just like with the Platinum Card, you can make use of the statement credit perks at any time, totaling a cumulative value of $819—offsetting the annual fee by a long shot. So even if December 31 seems close, book yourself a last-minute holiday to make the most of the hotel, flight and travel-related statement credit perks.

In addition to these core statement credit perks, the Business Platinum Card offers an extra $1,080 to $2,080 worth of statement credit perks, some of which you can maximize in full before the year ends.

If your business needs to invest in new tech, you can put the Business Platinum Card’s $150 Dell credit to work. And if you’ve already charged $5,000 or more to your Business Platinum Card within the last calendar year, you’ll be eligible for an additional $1,000 statement credit for Dell purchases. So if you’re a few hundred dollars short of reaching the $5,000 threshold, consider charging some extra expenses to your card to unlock significant savings with Dell.

The Business Platinum Card also offers you a $250 statement credit when you spend $600 or more with Adobe, using your card. If you need to purchase Adobe software or other digital tools, now’s the perfect time to do so and get reimbursed by up to $250.

If you pay your wireless telephone service bill using your Business Platinum Card, you can get up to $10 statement credits toward it. So if you haven’t already registered your Business Platinum Card on your wireless bill, do so today and save $30 by the end of the year.

Likewise, if your business is looking to expand its workforce, you could still get up to $90 in statement credits this quarter for purchases with Indeed. If you’ve already been paying for Indeed services since the beginning of the year, you could get a grand total of $360 in statement credits by the end of the year.

Finally, the Business Platinum Card offers you the chance to earn up to $200 in annual statement credits, issued in $50 quarterly credits, for direct purchases within the Hilton portfolio. You’ll need to be enrolled in the Hilton for Business program, and you could make yourself up to $50 back this remaining quarter if you spend with Hilton.

So if you’re a small business owner, put your Business Platinum Card to work and squeeze every last drop of remaining value out of it before the year comes to a close.

American Express® Gold Card

The American Express® Gold Card is the dream-come-true credit card for foodies. If you haven’t already been using its long list of statement credit perks toward your monthly food cravings, you still have some time to reap value from the card’s perks and offset its $325 annual fee (see rates and fees).

The Amex Gold Card offers an annual $120 Uber Cash credit, issued in $10 monthly credits. So whether you need to hitch a lift or want to enjoy a takeaway meal from the comfort of your own home, you can still get $30 worth of value from this perk before the year ends.

The Amex Gold also offers an annual $84 Dunkin’ credit, issued in $7 monthly credits. If you’re looking to satisfy your early morning sweet-treat cravings or want to sweeten up your coffee break, you can still get up to $21 worth of credits on Dunkin’ purchases this year.

If you haven’t dined at a Resy restaurant in the U.S. this year, you can get up to $50 in statement credits this remaining quarter when you pay with your Amex Gold Card. And if you’ve already dined with Resy earlier in the year, that’ll work out to a total of $100 in savings for the year.

Whether you’re in the mood for a takeaway, a slice of cheesecake, a bottle of red wine or a big juicy burger, the Amex Gold has you covered and will reimburse you up to $120 per year toward purchases at Grubhub, The Cheesecake Factory, Goldbelly, Wine.com and Five Guys. The credit is issued in $10 monthly increments, so you could still score yourself $30 worth of credits before the year ends.

After you’ve maxed out your food-related credits, why not treat yourself to a weekend getaway with The Hotel Collection? You can give your food baby some well-deserved R&R while maximizing the Amex Gold’s $100 experience credit with The Hotel Collection. The credit covers eligible spending on dining, spa and resort activities when you book a minimum stay of two nights with The Hotel Collection through American Express Travel®.

American Express Business® Gold Card

If you’ve been regularly using this perk every month, make sure to continue putting eligible spend on your card to earn the full value of this credit. And even if you’ve forgotten to take full advantage of this perk, you can still earn yourself $60 worth of statement credits for spending at FedEx, GrubHub and office supply stores.

The card also comes with a $155 Walmart+ membership credit, issued in $12.95 monthly credits. If you haven’t already signed up for a Walmart+ membership, enroll using your Amex Business Gold Card today and reap the benefits of membership—not to mention, you’ll save $155 every calendar year.

Like many American Express cards, the Amex Business Gold Card also offers a $100 experience credit to spend on qualifying dining, spa and resort activities when you book a minimum stay of two nights with The Hotel Collection through American Express Travel®. So why not take your significant other (or just yourself) on a weekend getaway to make full use of this credit before the year ends?

If you manage to charge $10,000 to your card within a calendar year, you’ll receive a $200 flight credit for Delta-marketed flights booked through Delta.com or Delta Reservations. So if you’re a few hundred dollars short of reaching $10,000, prioritize your card for everyday expenses and upcoming bill payments. This way, you’ll earn the credit and be able to use it to offset the card’s annual fee. Keep in mind that the credit is valid for one year from the date of issuance.

Likewise, all cardholders receive a $100 Delta Stays credit when they use their card to book prepaid hotels or vacation rentals through Delta Stays on Delta.com. So if you can squeeze in a weekend getaway before the year ends, book it through Delta Stays using your card and get full value from the credit.

You can get creative by stacking these card benefits together. For instance, you could take an Uber to the nearest Resy restaurant and have $10 taken off both the cost of the ride and your meal.

Likewise, the card offers the same $120 rideshare credit, issued in $10 monthly credits, as offered by the Delta SkyMiles Gold and Platinum cards. So make sure to use a rideshare service at least once a month until the year ends to maximize your card’s value.

You can also get a $200 Delta Stays credit when you use your card to book prepaid hotels or vacation rentals through Delta Stays on delta.com.

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card

The Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card shares many of the same perks as its personal card sibling, for the same annual fee of $650 (see rates and fees).

That means you still have time to take advantage of the $240 Resy credit as well as the $120 rideshare credit, issued in $20 and $10 monthly increments, respectively. That works out to $90 you could squeeze out of your card before the year ends.

The Delta Stays credit is slightly higher on the Reserve Business card, coming in at $250 when you use your card to book prepaid hotels or vacation rentals through Delta Stays on delta.com.

So ensure that you take full advantage of these credits before the year ends to help you offset the card’s high annual fee.

Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card

The Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card offers an annual statement credit of up to $200 for direct purchases with the Hilton portfolio.

Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card

The Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card offers a range of statement credit perks, totaling $799 in value, allowing you to more than offset the card’s annual fee of $550 (see rates and fees).

If you haven’t already stayed with Hilton this year, you can still get $200 in credits toward direct purchases with the Hilton portfolio. And if you’ve already used one of the biannually issued $200 credits, then you can receive the full $400 worth of Hilton statement credit perks by the end of the year. Be sure to make the purchase directly with Hilton (not through an online travel agency or other third-party booking service) as well as use your Aspire card.

Similarly, if you book a minimum stay of two nights through hiltonhonorsaspirecard.com or by calling 855-292-5757, you can get up to $100 in credits for qualifying charges at participating Waldorf Astoria® Hotels & Resorts and Conrad® Hotels & Resorts.
